Default So the nWo wasn't REALLY a poison, huh? Well consider this.

Vince McMahon brought in the nWo (storyline wise) to act as a "poison" and kill the WWE. The first temptation is to say that they failed miserably, and that the WWE was the one who killed the nWo. But look at it from a different perspective......

Already going in, there were several people who weren't exactly enthusiastic about the nWo returning. People like Paul Heyman and Chris Benoit, for example. Men frustrated at the group's past tendencies to hog the main event, and refuse putting anyone over. One man who was also quite pissed, one VERY important man, was Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin was quite used to being the WWE's main drawing card. But with old ghouls resurfacing, he worried his spot was in danger. His fears were validated when he was put in a mid-card grudge match against Scott Hall at Wrestlemania, the biggest show of the year (and an event Austin had main-evented just one year earlier). Austin was getting plenty mad at his character's direction, and the nWo was one of the reasons why. All of his frustrations combined eventually led to him leaving the company.

Now with Austin gone, many fans are knolling the death bell for the WWE. People are saying it's too late to save the company, and the final stab was taken when Austin walked out. So, in effect, the nWo DID actually succeed in indirectly killing the company. They played a part in taking out the strongest muscle on the entire body. They took out the WWE's number one cure for ratings cancer, Steve Austin. So was the nWo a failure? Of course it was if you consider it's short life span (five months) and it's sub-par mid-card feuds they were stuck in from April to July.

But was the nWo successful in fullfilling their objective by injecting poison?

IMO, yes. No Austin. No cure. No way out.

Well your right. The nWo angle did seem to inject its leathal poison int the WWE. Hmmm, you raise a good point. No Austin. Declining Ratings. & with no Austin, no ratings, no cure. Ha. The nWo did do what they were brought in to do. Good point M-Mac. Very good point.

An interesting point Marbles....The fact is though....Vince wanted the reverse.... In order to establish high ratings....He would coax the audience into believing the nWo would be poison to the WWF.... It was obvious from the beginning Vince would not sacrifice the roster for the benefit of the nWo....Thus eliminating any potential for the nWo to become a success....Thus....Your theory of the nWo "Poison" was true....Albeit Vince may have never wanted it to succeed....In WCW...The nWo ran through WCW superstars....Allowing the audience to believe the nWo was an actual threat...It may be just as simple as Vince and company rehashing an old gimmick that was doomed to fail....

Default I have to agree

Marbles you have really made a valid point.

Don't think a lot of us noticed just how quickly it happened even Vince. The one thing I don't believe even he saw coming, the walk out of Steve Austin. The reaction that it would happen on the company. It actually became more of a reality when a storyline came to pass..

I have to totally agree with you it makes a lot of sense...

I agree with everything you just said. The WWE took a gamble and lost. Vince McMahon is like a child with a toy once he gets bored with an old toy he gets a new one and abandons the old one. In this case the old toy was Austin. He then lost his new toy (NWO), but by then his old toy was long gone (Austin). Vince does this all the time an example will have to be Brock Lesnar, Vince abandoned Hogan, so he left and then The Rock left. I can guarnte that Vince will abandon all the main eventers and give all his attention to Steiner.

Default Have to face facts

Well whether he ment to do it or not,it darn well made an inpact. It seems like one of the first steps came about when Austin was having to feud with Scott Hall to try and put him over..The rest of it just seemed to fall into place.Had it fell in with the original NWO then it might have been a little different.
Others kept falling out and subsitutes couldn't walk in the steps with others. The Nwo fell by the side but the damage was already done...

Now the word now is that the road agents aren't happy with Steiner actions on the show. Hopefully if he is meant to stay on he will shapen up and fly right.I had made the statement weeks ago that Steiner would only be a bandaid for the company with the ratings and its looking like. They still have to find the right spot to bring that to come pass

Or Vince will start looking at the company and getting things where they need to be.Finding ways to work with the younger guys and get them going.

The NWO may be responsible for the departure of Stonecold but that departure was just temporary, you se in the long run, the NWO ended up killing the NWO and Austin returns to save the WWE just like a storybook.

Marbles strikes again, I told you people this guy is A wrestling and comedic genius, I agree totally Marbles, Not to mention how when Micheals joined, Him and Nash basically ran RAW, Almost like NWO of old, To alll the fans saying They were not a poison, Be grateful Nash got hurt, It would've been worse, And they actually killed the Booker push in the beginning.

I think the real reason vince got nWo in the wwe to show that wcw had sorry ass stables or something like that. Just like if he uses the four horsemen he would probaly fuck that up also.
