Default WWE Great American Bash Sunday July 20 2008

Since there's no thread for it yet and i'm probably the closest resident to the Nassau Colesium on the board here's the next Pay per view thread.

Matches so far:

SuperCena vs JBL Parking lot brawl

Though their rivalry has been continuing for months, tensions between John Cena and JBL have reached new extremes in recent weeks with the self-proclaimed “wrestling god” attempting to take control of Raw and the resulting vandalization of his limousine. Now, at The Great American Bash, Cena and JBL will face off in an NYC Parking Lot Brawl at the Nassau Coliseum in the self-made millionaire’s adopted state of New York.

After Mr. McMahon was injured on Raw, the program was left without a General Manager or other guiding force weeks ago, prompting JBL to attempt to take control of the program, challenging CM Punk for his World Heavyweight Championship and having Cena escorted from the building by the self-made millionaire’s own personal security force. They couldn’t keep the Chain Gang Commander out for long, however, as he stormed back in during JBL’s match with Punk, bringing along Cryme Tyme and attacking the security guards, distracting the Longhorn Loudmouth long enough for Punk to get the pin.

The following week saw both Cena and JBL compete in a Fatal Four Way Match for No. 1 contender status for the World Heavyweight Championship. Before the match, however, Cena and his Cryme Tyme buddies hijacked Layfield’s limousine, proceeding to smash mirrors, break windows and even graffiti the automobile.

Cena and JBL have faced each other under vicious match stipulations before, fighting through a First Blood Match at One Night Stand that saw JBL lose after bleeding from his Longhorn Loudmouth. However, The Great American Bash will see the two compete in a far more brutal match where absolutely anything goes. Who will leave more of their body in the parking lot at Nassau Coliseum? It may very well come down to that when these two competitors face one another at The Great American Bash.

The belt hogs Triple H vs Edge for the WWE Title.

Since the moment Edge lost the World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk on Raw, the Rated-R Superstar has been fuming. Prior to their bitter breakup, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero, hoping to put gold back around the waist of her angry former fiancé, announced the first Great American Bash match: Edge vs. Triple H for the WWE Championship.

Although Edge still has a lot on his plate in the form of Guerrero and their cancelled nuptials, the Ultimate Opportunist has cleared his mind enough to focus on one thing: the WWE Championship. Admitting he’s had a rough week, professionally and personally, Edge is determined to single-handedly win the gold – without the support of his former fiancée or his "Family." But can the Rated-R Superstar win back the title by himself?

Thanks to the 2008 WWE Draft, Triple H arrived on SmackDown to become the reigning King of Friday Nights, with the WWE Championship firmly wrapped around his waist. Despite a whole new roster of Superstars after his gold, The Game is not intimidated. Will Edge’s determination to capture the WWE Championship be enough to conquer The King of Kings? Or will Triple H prove he’s still worthy of holding the WWE Championship, no matter the brand?

Edge has vowed he will beat Triple H at the Great American Bash, promising to become WWE Champion for the third time, but The Game is resolute in his quest to retain the gold. Who will walk away WWE Champion? Check out the Great American Bash to find out, Sunday, July 20, at 8/7 CT, live and only on pay-per-view.

The Barbie Girls in a Barbie world for the Mattel Barbie Diva Belt for YOU! Natalyia Niedhart vs Michelle McCool.

Since making her debut in WWE, SmackDown’s third-generation Diva, Natalya, has been living by the credo, “If you mess with the best, you go down with the rest.” But, the defiant Michelle McCool is aiming to show that she will be the one who stands tall in the end. At The Great American Bash, these two fierce competitors will get their chance to make history as they battle to become SmackDown’s first-ever Divas Champion.

Shortly after General Manager Vickie Guerrero’s stunning announcement of the creation of the new championship, Natalya seized her golden opportunity with authority. By defeating six of the Sexiest Women on Television in a hard-fought Golden Dreams Match, she earned the right to be the first Diva that will compete for the newly created title at the July 20 pay-per-view. Then, after weeks of Diva matches set up to impress Guerrero, the beautiful Michelle McCool earned the second spot, claiming a fast-paced Golden Dreams victory of her own.

Natalya is ecstatic about the monumental opportunity, but does not seem surprised in the least. She has every intention of making her moment count. McCool, no stranger to sneak attacks by the third-generation Superstar, is tenaciously preparing herself for anything in order to claim the top spot on the mountain for herself.

With both Divas’ confidence at an all-time high, one thing is for certain: Whoever walks out of The Great American Bash with the Divas Championship will have given everything she has in order to be a champion.

Oh no not again Chris Jerhico vs Shawn Michaels how many more times will we see this?

Members of the WWE Universe have looked on recently as Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho circled one another like junkyard dogs. Jericho has claimed that HBK is nothing more than a phony and even gone so far as to smash his head into the JeriTron-6000, seriously injuring Michaels’ eye. Now, in spite of his injury, The Showstopper has accepted Y2J’s challenge to face him at The Great American Bash.

The rivalry between the two began months ago with Jericho accusing Michaels of faking a knee injury during a match with Batista. HBK revealed that he was indeed faking by delivering some Sweet Chin Music to an unsuspecting Y2J as the crowd cheered him on. Over the next few weeks, Jericho found himself on the bad side of Raw audiences, being booed for his actions in and out of the ring. Frustrated that he gets jeered while Michaels is cheered for his every action, Jericho assaulted HBK and injured his eye, preventing him from officially participating in matches.

Even with an injured eye, Michaels continued to prolong his rivalry with Jericho. At Night of Champions, as Y2J defended his Intercontinental Championship against Kofi Kingston, Michaels fought with his former protégé, and Jericho’s new ally Lance Cade outside the ring. Cade had turned on HBK and joined forces with Y2J after witnessing Michaels’ actions and falling under Jericho’s influence. The scuffle outside the ring was just enough of a distraction to allow the Jamaican Superstar to get the upper-hand and win Y2J’s Intercontinental Title.

To date, this rivalry has cost Shawn Michaels the use of his right eye, and Chris Jericho his Intercontinental Championship. How much more will these men lose when they put it all on the line at The Great American Bash? As they’ve both told one another: “The worst is yet to come.”

CM Punk vs Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship

Whoever prevails in the World Heavyweight Championship Match between reigning titleholder CM Punk and his challenger Batista, one thing is irrefutable: That man will have earned it.

The Straightedge Superstar’s road to World Heavyweight Gold took him through a classic Money in the Bank Match at WrestleMania XXIV against some of WWE’s toughest opponents, including Mr. Kennedy, Chris Jericho and John Morrison. Mr. Money in the Bank then keenly cashed in his contract on Raw against Edge – who had ironically been wounded by The Animal moments before Punk’s opportunistic move.

For his part, former World Heavyweight Champion Batista prevailed over John Cena, JBL and Kane in a brutal Fatal Four Way Match to earn the No. 1 contender spot.

Before the match, The Animal offered Punk a show of respect, shaking his hand and even telling him that he deserved the title, then made his intentions unmistakably clear: Batista will let nothing stand in the way of him recapturing his title.

When these two fierce competitors clash, can the Straightedge Superstar draw on his quickness and agility to overcome? Or will The Animal’s distinct size and strength advantage prove too much for the reigning champion to surmount? Check out The Great American Bash, live and only on pay-per-view.

I'm so fat my opponent can't fit in the picture Mark Henry vs Tommy Dreamer for the Tinkertoy er ECW Title.

The bad blood between Mark Henry and Tommy Dreamer has been simmering for several weeks now. At The Great American Bash, it promises to boil straight over.

When Mark Henry found himself drafted to ECW last month, the World's Strongest Man leveraged the opportunity set before him to make a statement.

The Land of Extreme heard him loud and clear.

Henry captured the ECW Championship in a Triple Threat Match pitting he against former champions Big Show and Kane at Night of Champions.

Since then, Henry has thrown his sizable weight around the ECW roster, even taking his considerable rage out on poor, pitiful Colin Delaney. That's where Dreamer comes in.

The ECW original wasn't having it. Dreamer wanted revenge on the World's Strongest Champ, and he scored his chance the following week. The outcome, however, wasn't exactly as he'd planned.

Dreamer held his own during the match, but then a giant barricade presented itself in the form of Tony Atlas.

The WWE Hall of Famer tossed Dreamer's pal Delaney into the announcer's table, providing Henry with enough of a distraction to allow him to level Dreamer and prevail in the end.

At The Great American Bash, the ECW Champion and the ECW Original will meet again. This time, however, Dreamer won't be seeking revenge for Delaney. This time, he'll be seeking revenge for himself.

Oh look a time filler match for the tag titles.

As purveyors of "The Dirt Sheet," WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz have done a lot of smack talking as of late. Now they’ll have to back it up in a Fatal Four Way Tag Team Match with their title up for grabs against Finlay & Hornswoggle, Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder, and Jesse & Festus.

(Watch the champions poke fun at their fellow Superstars in The Dirt Sheet.)

But, The Great American Bash won’t be the first time the eight Superstars have crossed paths in recent weeks.

At Night of Champions, John Morrison & The Miz defeated Finlay & Hornswoggle to retain their title. But on SmackDown, the father-son duo was able to defeat the champions, even though the bout was non-title. And on the July 1 episode of ECW, United States Champion Matt Hardy, Finlay & Hornswoggle defeated The Miz, John Morrison & Chavo Guerrero. The green team has made it clear – they want gold!

However, Finlay & Hornswoggle aren’t the champions’ only threat.

Jesse & Festus defeated Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder on the July 4 episode of SmackDown. But, Festus paid the price after the match, when Edge brutally smashed him over the head with a steel chair. (WATCH)

When Hawkins & Ryder step into the Fatal Four Way, will they have the support of Edge and “The Family” behind them? And, when the bell rings, who will be able to stop the corn-fed colossus, Festus, who has mauled many an opponent on SmackDown?

The reigning champions have repeatedly said they have no competition in WWE. They have backed up their claim by retaining the gold they have donned since last November. However, now the stakes are much higher as they must endure an onslaught from six Superstars. But before Sunday, they face their final test when they take on Jesse & Festus in a non-title match on SmackDown.

When all four teams collide in the massive pay-per-view encounter, which one will survive the mayhem and walk away with the gold?

Would it be a bad idea, to have Punk go over and than have Batista snap, and finally give us the heel turn we've wanted from him since mania 23?

How many fucking times do we have to see Cena vs. JBL?

Hasn't Cena won all his damn PPV matches against JBL anyways, I highly doubt this will be any different unless creative have a change of Heart and decide to make JBL a legitimate Heel again rather then the Rich Guy...

^I was going to post that exact same thing. Surely Vince has realized that JBL and Cena don't have the best chemistry anymore and that the feud is stale if Cena keeps winning in it.

Why JBL is being treated like crap by creative is beyond me.

It's only happened twice in 2008 where it was 1 on 1, and it seems HBK/Y2J have had the same amount matches as JBL/Cena. yet nobody is complaining about that feud. Everybody loves Edge, but let's not forget that for the last year he's only faced Taker and Batista in big matches.

If Cena is fighting for the title it's stale. Now if he's in a midcard feud with JBL that's a problem also...What the fuck?

Why JBL is being treated like crap by creative is beyond me.

He's only the biggest heel (Beside Y2J) on the show. He's navigating a Hostile Takeover, he legitamized Punk's title reign, and his Martial Law angle is starting off well. In reality if JBL is going to takeover the show while Vince is gone, it only makes sense that he goes after Cena (and Cryme Tyme) right now. Because Cena is his biggest threat right now, if i wasn't for Cena he would be Champion and running Raw now. This angle is doing just fine and JBL is not being "treated like crap by creative". Hell, I bet everybody in creative is scared shitless of JBL behind the scenes.

We also have to consider that it's been reported that the guy has been down on himself because of his weight. His back is shot, and he doesn't really want to be out there performing. This angle might just be away to write him out as a full time performer, and setting him up for a GM type role.

JBL has been nothing short of awesome the last 2 weeks.

Cena fighting for the Title didn't get old this fast, I'm okay with a fued but this fued is accomplishing NOTHING. It is Literally holding both JBL and Cena back. They're fighting for Number #1 contendership for the title which is fine and dandy... But it seems it been going for since Bachlash...

I dunno, I'm probably not making all that much sense but it just feels like it's getting repeated over and over again with the same boring results. Cena will win, have his Title shot and if he loses he'll most likely face JBL again the following PPV. Why can't JBL damn win for once?

EDIT - Thanks for not highlighting the fact that I typed difficult rather than different in my original post... I keep looking over it and shaking my head

JBL is trying to ochestrate a Hostile Takeover. Cena and Cryme Tyme is trying to stop him. Cena cost JBL the title 2 weeks ago, JBL cost Cena a shot at the title a week ago. I think they're accomplishing what they're going for in this feud, Emo.

I'm not one to talk about somebody's grammar, homie. lol

I'm really hoping JBL does manage to pull off the takeover because all this fued is accomplsihing so far is a New Stable for Cena. I just have this slight feeling that someone will step back into a position of power [Like Maybe Regal again now his suspsension is up] and JBL's attempts at taking over RAW for his personal gain will be fruitless...

Which is great for Cena and Cryme Tyme but kinda hollow for JBL...

Jericho and HBK at least have decent chemistry. Out of the recent Cena vs JBL matches none of them has had much chemistry or been very entertaining IMO and on top of that Cena has won every time.

Any feud which one guy just keeps winning makes the other guy look dumb and is fairly pointless in my mind. Unless, like you say, its going to end in JBL being a GM type guy. But even then that doesn't excuse them having as many matches as they have recently especially with the bland nature the matches have had.

Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't Batista been on The American Bash card (for the past 4) fighting for the title?

They should have let JBL into the title picture (as heel) and have him win.

Make Cena and Batista (Heel) and make this a fight, but I heard this a wrestlemania match (would suck, but who knows).
