Don't count out Foley ... yet

By TIM BAINES -- Ottawa Sun

With his street clothes slung over his shoulder and a tear in his eye, Mick Foley walked out of the St. Pete Times Forum into the night.

Foley, whose alter egos include the maniacal Cactus Jack and the twisted tie-dyed Dude Love, had seemingly quit his role on RAW on Monday night.

Quit on the fans. Quit on himself.

Facing a return to the ring after a lengthy absence, facing a match against legend killer Randy Orton, Foley got into the ring before slinking away, unwilling to wrestle. But not before Orton could get in his face, call him a coward and spit on him.

Fans in the arena ... and probably fans around the world were left in disbelief after such an empty way to end the show. Foley had put his co-GM job on the line; a victory over Orton would mean that Eric Bischoff would be the one to leave.

And with tomorrow night's RAW a Best of 2003 show, there won't be any closure.

But this is WWE, where all is not necessarily as it seems.

Foley's return would never take place on RAW. WWE is smart enough not to give that away for free. No, Foley's return will be on a pay-per-view, likely Wrestlemania, but it wouldn't be shocking to see him show up for next month's Royal Rumble.

So what we're left with is Bischoff as the sole GM of RAW. Or is he?

While Stone Cold Steve Austin was relieved of his co-GM position, don't be surprised if The Texas Rattlesnake shows up on RAW, live from San Antonio, a week from tomorrow.

And don't be surprised if there's a lot more to this Foley escapade than meets the eye.

RAW came one night after a set of bizarre circumstances at WWE's Armageddon pay-per-view in Orlando. It was Evolution, more Evolution and yet more Evolution, a clean sweep of WWE titles. Triple H won a three-way match over Bill Goldberg and Kane to once again wrap the heavyweight strap around his waist; Ric Flair and Batista won a Tag Team Turmoil match to win the tag belts; and Randy Orton beat Rob Van Dam to win the intercontinental title.

The internet was burning up with criticism of this title sweep, but I believe it can work.

The idea of Triple H as a champ may be a tired idea. But a rise to power of Evolution may give RAW a bit of a jump start, with a guy like Austin getting right in the middle of it.

I still believe that Flair is being underutilized. His wrestling skills and his mic skills put Triple H's to shame. Flair needs to become a front man; bring him out from behind Triple H's shadow.

- Other Armageddon results: Booker T beat Mark Henry; Chris Jericho and Christian beat Trish Stratus and Lita; Shawn Michaels beat Batista; and Molly Holly beat Ivory.

- Don't buy into the Goldberg suspension thing. He was already scheduled to wrestle in Japan and wasn't going to return until mid-January anyway.

- Friction is flying between Jericho and Christian. Unless WWE has a major swerve in mind, it looks like Jericho is really head over heels in love with Trish. And that doesn't sit well with his buddy Christian.

- Matt Anoai (Rosey) has a new baby daughter, Madison Alani, born Thursday in Cincinnati. She's 7 lbs., 14 oz, 21 inches long. "She eats like she's a 360-lb. Samoan," Rosey quipped to wwe.com. Rosey also has a five-year-old boy, Jordan.

- Don't know about anybody else, but I'm having a hard time picturing Bob Holly as a main-eventer, against Brock Lesnar. After he gets his ass kicked by Lesnar, I want a piece of Holly ... and as flabby as I am, I might win.

- And I'm not sure about Jon Heidenreich, who lost again to Rico. Heidenreich has got the bulk, but he's too slow. And speaking of Rico, he deserves a major push. Imagine Rico vs. Goldust (when his gender was still in question).

Foley needs to stay off of my TV screen. I mean think about it. Him and Ortan won't even have a remotly good match unless it a falls count anywhere, exploding barbwire match. i don't think that I have seen one Mick Foley match worth watching if the match didn't have a stipulation. I'm not gonna try and pretend that Foley is the man. He does nothing different then Hayabusa, Onita or many men do in Japan, he just did it on WWE tv. This man has doen his fair share of gerat hardcore match's but not one deceant regular match. The closes he got to a great match that wasn't to hardkore was when he and Sting faced off.

I am almost sure the mind games match against HBK was a singles match. No stips... I could be wrong.

I hate Foley....
pretty much for all the reasons Dre stated, and the fact that he goes for more cheap pops than Dante does
