Which of the following persons was most responsible for the WWF'S sucess circa 1998?
1. Austin
2.Rock (as a heel)
3. Foley
4. Mr. McMahon(the character)
I say Foley. His fueds with the other three plus Undertaker were the best things in WWF during the initiation of "attiude".

I don't think Foley brought in the casual fans like Austin and Rocky were able to but he was still a big part of the resurgence.

Steve Austin obviously from a profitable point of view, everytime WWE had a PPV during that time, it seemed to always focus either on Austin himself or his sometimes cheesy motives.

I would say WCW...

we had 2 companies trying to find new fans all the time... the crowd was getting bigger and bigger... then wcw went downhill... so the fans tuned in for WWE...

Then the talent carried from there...

Default Give me a Hell Yeah!

Whatever. Maybe you need to check out "What?" Stone Cold's DVD. In it, you will find some matches of what he brings/brought to the table. Most importantly, what he did at King of the Ring 1996 that spawned the biggest character to ever grace the WWF television screens. He brought long-time viewers back, as well as became the hottest thing (marketing wise) since Hulk Hogan in the early 80's. I know because I am old enough to compair the two. If you have not been watching since 1982 at least, you have nothing to compare to except what you have seen over the past five years.

hehe, I've watching wrestling since WM3...

I know what Austin did...

But I'm looking behind of it all...

1996 = 3:16 was born

we are talking about 1998 with Austin faced HBk with Tyson... with the attitude starting... that helped...

but to have so much crowd so fast... I think the greater % came from wrestling fans who watched WCW with the nWo...

WCW brought back old wrestling fans... and WWE won them with the Attitude era...

I'm not bashing on Austin... I just saying there's more factors then having Austin on your side.

for me it s Paul Heyman .
Why? Look at what ECW did at the time and look after at "wwf attitude" : it s a big rip off of Extreme Championship Wrestling attitude.
Vince always stole good ideas from others and he did so with ECW, just making it a HUGE concept all over the world (with his power and money).

HEY YO! Jackass......

How come no one has mentioned Degeneration-X????

Because you idiot, it was a rip off of what WCW did with nWo. It was put together BECAUSE nWo was so successful. Austin was original.

For the record....I have been watching since before WM3. I saw the first WM on t.v. along with the second, and the third, and the fourth, and the fifth, sixth, seventh..............................

I don't mean because my mom's nut of the week was watching. I was watching wrestling at Taylor County Collisium when the Von Eric's were touring Texas. Watching NWA on t.v. as a little kid. When Ric Flair still got hoes, and before you were an itch in your daddy's underwear. Don't try to get all Nastalgic on me, I only loved two sports growing up.....Football and Wrestling. What the hell boy, I am from Texas.

Are you serious? Bite me . Of course DX was a ripoff of the nWo. It was so obvious. But that doesn't mean that DX was not sucessful, because it was. And just because its a ripoff didn't mean I didn't like the angle. The nWo itself is pretty similar to another angle, the 4 Horsemen. But does that mean I hate the nWo because it was derived from the horseman. No. And Stonecold is not original. Hes an anti-hero something that exists in pretty much a million american action movies. And don't friging start flame wars for no reason agian you internet troll.
