Default Huge Hogan/McMahon Heat, Lex Luger/WWE

Story By: Ben Johnson
May 30, 2003

If you were watching SmackDown!, you know that this week's Confidential is set to feature a piece on the Hogan/Vince fallout in the early 90s, as well as Hogan's involvement in the steroid trial. Should be an interesting piece, although probably would've made more sense back in March.

As you know, the Confidential ratings skyrocketed back to levels the show hasn't seen since its debut last year for the Lex Luger/Elizabeth Hulette coverage. Last week's show, however, saw a big drop in the ratings since the two were not featured on the show (as well as the fact that it was a repeat). The Luger/Elizabeth story proved that something that is considered big and controversial in the wrestling world, when shown on Confidential, can still spark ratings. Saturday's Confidential should show WWE whether or not fans are too interested in the Hogan/McMahon history, which directly would involve interest in the Hogan/McMahon TV angle.

Uhhh....no.

Fans generally don't watch the weekend shows, for the main reason that they feel they don't have to. As long as they watch Raw and Smackdown, they feel abreast as to what's going on in the WWE. Not since Saturday Night's Main Event has a WWE weekend program ever scored regularly high ratings. Sunday Night Heat did okay for the first couple months of its existance, but then once again it lost its novelty and importance.

Confidential's Elizabeth thing did okay only because it was hyped considerably when compared to other editions of Confidential. It also promised to dig deep into the relationship between Lex Luger and Liz, which peaked the interest of a lot of nosy perverted fans.

The Hogan/McMahon Confidential will in no way reflect the number of people who are interested in the angle. There's not even a relation. It won't score any higher than 1.0, not that won't stop the fans from being over-anaytical anyways, like they always are.

Curt Hennig's Confidential tribute only scored 0.9 as well. Does that mean that there's less than one million people in this world who care about Curt Hennig's passing?

No. Confidential's ratings are in no way a reflection of people's interests in anything.
