I thought '97 was WWE's best year.

I agree with J-Sick....The Montreal Incident....The Rock....Austin..... McMahon... Russo...It was an instrumental year in which the tide of wrestling changed.....The tide changed from WCW to WWF.....

1997 was the year of the bret vs austin s classic at mania and the birth of the hart foundation s faction (as heels).
Great year no doubt about it...

IMO, 1998 was the best, it was the attitude era, and it kicked ass!

Raw has still better STORYLINES then Smackdown , so what's your problem ? Raw = entertainment , SD = wrestling !

That's exactly the problem....RAW = Entertainment....Smackdown = Wrestling....Should not both shows be a blend of wrestling and entertainment.... I understand the need to seperate the brands....Cruiserweights exclusive to Smackdown....And what not.....But the fact is....One should not be sacrificed for the other....If you want Smackdown to seperate from RAW..... Wrestling wise...It does not mean you bury RAW by putting shit on like Berny Mac (Or whatever the hell his name is) Vs. Al Snow.....

It was also the attitude era in 97'. The term wasn't invented untill 98 or 99 I believe, but it was 97' when the WWE's attitude really changed. Most likely spurred by the changes in WCW. In the WWE in 97 you've got Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels main-eventing, two awesome stables the Hart Foundation and the original DX, and people like Stone Cold and the Rock as mid-carders (where I liked them the most).

well i agree with all of you..and i also agree that it will be good now that rock is back and austin coming back at NWO!! however i think as far as bad gimmics...goldberg would ruin wwe if he came!! pretty bad gimmic there keeping the streak going!! besides they have brock..so why have goldberg too?? basically the same invinciable gimmic..so 2 wouldn't work!!

I consider the 1995-1997 period in WWE history "the dark period". I remember very little of what went on during that span, and there was even a period when I stopped watching WWE. After that, I have only missed one or two RAWs and have been following it pretty closely. Grant it, some of the RAW storylines are weak, but Smackdown! has a couple weak ones as well. I forget which ones, but they do. Something definately needs to turn around to get the WWE back to the major role it had in the late 90s early 00s.
