Default NBA offseason moves/talks

I know I missed most of the important trades/deals/moves...Like Baron left GS for LAC...Brand left LAC for Eastern Conference...and many more...but let's talk some hoops...

So Monta Ellis supposed to be Baron's passing the torch franchise player...dude signed 6 years deal for one of the biggest pay raised in the league history...and now he is out at least until December with some stupid injury while doing something stupid...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3556108

My main man Ginobili is out at least 6-8 weeks because of ankle surgery...but that's good...hopefully he'll be back to his old form and not the ineffective player during the Western Conference Finals...

Arenas has knee surgery, says he'll be back in December

WASHINGTON -- Gilbert Arenas had a third operation on his left knee Wednesday morning, putting the Washington Wizards in full spin mode as they face another season of uncertainty concerning their franchise player.

"I don't know if it is a setback," team president Ernie Grunfeld said.

Grunfeld might be the only person who can say that with a straight face. The star player who signed an $111 million contract in July seems almost certain to miss the early part of the regular season at a minimum, dousing the team's hopes of having a healthy campaign after the past two were wrecked by injuries to top players.

"It's just an opportunity for other guys to step up and pick up the slack," said Grunfeld, a sentiment he has uttered often in recent years.

The team said the arthroscopic procedure removed a "moderate amount of debris" from Arenas' knee. Grunfeld offered no timetable for Arenas' return, but Arenas told The Washington Post that he plans to be back on the court in early December, which would rule him out for the first month of the season.

Adande: Contract Killer?

For at least the first month of the season, Gilbert Arenas won't get a chance to prove he was worth his new contract, J.A. Adande writes. Story

"I just had some floating debris in there that was slowing me down," Arenas said, according to the Post. "It was irritating the knee so we decided to go in there and clean it out. This should actually allow me to come back faster."

But a team source told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher that Arenas' timetable was "optimistic" and said a January return is far more likely.

The surgery is the third on the knee in 17 months. The decision to clean out the knee was made Tuesday night after Arenas consulted with several knee specialists around the country, ESPN.com has learned.

"When we ramped up his rehab he had some discomfort and some swelling," Grunfeld said, "so they thought this was the right time to do it."

Arenas missed 69 regular-season games last season and had to shut himself down during the playoffs. Still, Grunfeld expressed no regret about the decision to give Arenas a six-year, $111 million contract after the point guard opted for free agency during the offseason.

"This is not a one- or two-month proposition for us," Grunfeld said. "Gilbert is 26 years old and we are looking at the big picture and we are expecting to have him in this franchise for a long time and to be an outstanding player for us."

Arenas first hurt his knee in a game against Charlotte in April 2007. He tried to rush back and was playing in summer league games a few months later. The overzealous approach resulted in a second operation in November, causing him to miss most of the season.

Arenas vowed to take a more cautious approach to rehabilitation this summer, but the knee once again did not respond the way he would like.

The doctor who performed the operation Wednesday said debris buildup is common in Arenas' type of injury, and that an MRI showed the knee to be structurally sound.

"This was a proactive procedure that will enhance his rehabilitation process," said Dr. Marc Connell, the Wizards' team physician.

Arenas has proved to be one of the most exciting players in the NBA when healthy, averaging 22.8 points, 5.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds in his seven-season NBA career. The Wizards played relatively well when he was absent last season, with Antonio Daniels at point guard and Caron Butler asserting more control, but the team lost again to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.

"We feel good where we are right now," Grunfeld said, "and I think we will be a very competitive team."

Ric Bucher covers the NBA for ESPN The Magazine. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Howard's anthem comments in YouTube video draw response from Mavs

DALLAS -- A YouTube video from a charity flag football game in July has Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard embroiled in controversy yet again.

The video, from Allen Iverson's event, shows Howard, as the national anthem is being sung, saying: "'The Star-Spangled Banner' is going on. I don't celebrate this [expletive]. I'm black." Howard also makes a hard-to-hear reference to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama (see the video here; some viewers may find content offensive).

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said, according to The Dallas Morning News, that the team dealt with Howard at the time of the incident. He added that the team has a plan in place to address the issue at training camp.

"That said, we will be going through some advanced communication skill sessions together this training camp," Cuban said Tuesday. "I have explained to him that cell phone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV."

Howard's agent, Jeff Schwartz, did not immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press seeking comment. Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks' president of basketball operations, directed questions to team owner Mark Cuban, who in an e-mail declined to comment to the AP.

Also in July, Howard was arrested and charged with speeding (94 mph in a 55 mph zone), careless and reckless driving, and speed competition in North Carolina. He was released from jail on a written promise to appear in court Sept. 23.

In that incident, police said an officer saw a black Lexus and a silver Volkswagen speeding along U.S. 421. The officer stopped the Lexus, and Howard was identified as the driver.

Howard was criticized last season for saying in a radio interview during a first-round playoff series against New Orleans that he occasionally smokes marijuana. Later that same series, he angered coach Avery Johnson by throwing himself a birthday bash after a Game 4 loss to the Hornets.

And in 2006, Howard opted out of playing for the U.S. Olympic team program, reportedly because he said it conflicted with his summer training camps.

Information from The Associated Press is included in this report

The Cavs got Mo Williams, now hopefully someone other than LeBron can run the offense and put points up at the same time.

Looks like it's championship or bust this year, but really if LeBron leaves, then fuck it. Basketball never really was my favorite sport and in Cleveland the Cavs will ALWAYS take a backseat to the Browns and Indians...probably the Gladiators, too...

But yeah...if LeBron wants to go work for his buddy in Brooklyn, then good for him.

Late.

If you or someone you know has been caused grief by an "Internet Bully" then you and/or that person is nothing but a little punk ass bitch, and the world would be a better, more manly place if you'd just jump off a fucking bridge already. We gave Arenas a new deal, and he isn't going to play until December, maybe January.

Think about that.

I'm waiting to see if Joe can somehow turn Kwame Brown into a real player. Doubt it, but it would be interesting.

A. Mac still got game if you ask me...and Jason Max should get plenty of playing time...very skilled player...Kwame can be a bench warmer like he should be...and that is that...Pistons got depth at other positions too...so I wouldn't count them out just yet...
