Default New NFL rule proposals

Quote:
Implementation of coach-to-defensive player communication system: The quarterback's helmet has long been outfitted with an electronic receiver allowing him to hear plays from the sidelines. Why not a linebacker's? The same proposal fell just two votes short of passing last year. The New England Patriots' being caught for illegally videotaping the New York Jets' defensive signals at the start of the 2007 season could close the gap. So could a modification allowing for a second defensive player's helmet to contain a receiver, but only worn in the event the primary defender receiving signals is forced to leave the game because of an injury.
I like this idea. I think it's good to have a counterbalance on the defensive side of the ball. It's almost like a new position on the field. You'd have more of a roving linebacker or safety orchestrating the defensive scheme and coordinating things. I'm for it.

Exo votes: YES

Quote:
Change in playoff seeding: Division winners would still automatically qualify for the postseason, with the top two of those four receiving first-round byes. But under the new format, the third through sixth seeds would be based on record. That means a wild-card team could play at home in the first round if it has a better record than the division champion it faces. If a wild-card has the same record as division winner, the division winner would play at home. Besides bringing more fairness to the playoffs, this format would theoretically discourage teams that already clinched a playoff spot from sitting starters in the final week or two of the regular season.
This is silly. Football has divisions for a reason. Otherwise it'd be like the NBA. Winning your division should always be the primary focus of a team for making the postseason. If a team is in as a wild card, that's just for getting lucky. Every year some team complains about this or that it's a possibility that they won't make the playoffs because some shitty team has to go in for the nfc west. But really, deal with it. It's better the way it is.

Quote:
Elimination of the force-out rule on receptions and interceptions: Although only 15 such calls were made last season, this would help promote greater consistency in officials' determining whether a catch or an interception has been made. No longer would they have to determine if both feet would have landed in bounds had he not been forced out of bounds while catching the ball. Either he has two feet in or he doesn't.
Nonsense. Making a great play on the sidelines is one of the most exciting things in football. I can see there would be a ton more plays where players are being intentionally forced out without the defender having to worry about the consequences. Instead, they should relax that stupid no touch after 5 yards pussy rule. Let the defenders have some flexibility instead of all this wr primadonna bullshit they have now.

Exo votes: NO

Quote:
Elimination of the five-yard "incidental" facemask penalty: Merely grasping another player's facemask would no longer result in a penalty. If a player grabs and twists/turns another player's facemask, he will draw a 15-yard penalty.
There would be too many hands up in faces, and eyes, and stuff like that. I think it's important for players to be aware of where their hands are and to have some respect for not grabbing the face mask. Unless you're a rb or wr giving a badass stiff arm. Otherwise leave it alone or we'll have way too many ticky tack 15 yard penalties.

Exo votes: NO

Quote:
Implementation of deferral option on the opening coin toss: This would be an adaptation of a college rule. Currently in the NFL, the team that wins the toss decides whether to kick or receive, while the team that loses the toss makes that choice for the start of the second half. The new proposal would, like the college rule, allow the team that wins the toss to defer the decision to kick or receive until the third quarter.
Sure yeah whatever, I don't really care.

Exo votes: Whatever side is winning.

Quote:
Expanding instant-replay reviews to include field-goal attempts: It took a bizarre play to cause this change to be considered, but that's what often happens. Officials were faced with a quandary last season after a game-tying, field-goal try by the Cleveland Browns' Phil Dawson appeared to have hit the crossbar and bounced back on the field. A review wasn't supposed to be allowed, but it was eventually (and correctly) determined that the ball actually hit the support stanchion behind the goal post and was good. The Browns proceeded to beat the Baltimore Ravens in overtime.
Sure, anything can happen. This is fine. Proceed

Exo votes: YES

Quote:
Adjustment of roster size: There are multiple proposals concerning the size of rosters. One possibility is expanding beyond 80 in the offseason and the first cut-down in training camp, but this topic will need much more discussion before any change will even be considered.
The 53 man roster is perfect and works out great. The only thing that I'd really consider is opening a slot for teams to have a fieldgoal/extra point kicker and a kickoff specialist. Really, kickers are only like half a player anyways. Otherwise, don't fuck with what's working so great.

Exo votes: NO

Quote:
Banning players' hair from covering the name plate or number on the back or sleeves of his jersey: It isn't easy to get a real handle on this one, except that it would not require players to cut their hair. They just need to tuck excess hair under their helmet. It's also hard to gauge how strongly the NFL's competition committee is embracing this proposal. Atlanta Falcons president and committee co-chairman Rich McKay was quick to point out that the proposal came from the Kansas City Chiefs and made it clear that they should be the ones to explain the thinking behind it. "The committee as a whole is going to, you know, obviously endorse the position at some point when we get to that point," McKay said. "But I think I would defer to the Chiefs with respect to the proposal itself."

lame.

The force out rule is what boggles my mind, I agree with ya Exo on the 5 yard pussy rule. They should have kept the force out and allowed more leeway for defender receiver contact.

..and the hair, WTF. If a guy wants to look like ZZtop, let him, it is his hair the is gonna get pulled out.

Changing the face mask thing is fucking stupid. There should be a difference between grabbing and letting go and turning the face mask. Grabbing should still be a 5 yard penalty. Now it's an automatic major 15 yards..And it might be ticky tack..Don't like it at all.
