Default Brady Quinn Era Begins: Frye Traded

Browns trade Frye to Seahawks

Associated Press

CLEVELAND -- Browns starting quarterback Charlie Frye, benched before halftime in the season opener, was traded to Seattle on Tuesday, a stunningly swift move as Cleveland clears the way for rookie Brady Quinn.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Browns will receive a sixth-round draft from the Seahawks.

The teams have an agreement in place, said a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal was not finalized.

Frye was dealt less than 48 hours after playing poorly and being pulled in the second quarter by coach Romeo Crennel for backup Derek Anderson in the Browns' 34-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Frye, who made 13 starts last season and five as a rookie in 2005, beat out Anderson during a drawn-out competition that began during the off-season and carried through training camp and the preseason.

The Browns also signed quarterback Ken Dorsey, cut 10 days ago by the club, to a one-year contract.

The 6-foot-4, 220 pound Dorsey rejoins the Browns after spending last season with the club and recently being waived on Sept. 1, at the end of training camp on the final roster cut-down. Dorsey appeared in one game last year for the Browns and has appeared in 12 games, including 10 starts, during his NFL career with San Francisco and Cleveland.

Tagged since April's draft as Cleveland's quarterback of the future, Quinn could soon become the Browns' man of the moment.

In the aftermath of a 34-7 drubbing against Pittsburgh in Sunday's season opener, Crennel didn't rule out Quinn making his NFL debut this week against Cincinnati.

Quinn served as Cleveland's emergency quarterback on Sunday, but after both Frye and Anderson failed miserably against the Steelers, the Browns may soon turn to their high-profile rookie from Notre Dame.

The seahawks also plan to put Wallace as there Return man and add another spot of depth on the WR roster.

The Charlie Frye era is over. LMAO.

Just get that kid in there and let him lose. At least he has hope of getting better.

Uhhh...wow.

I would've rather had Anderson traded, but okay.

Cortez burned his ships...that worked...why not?

Late.

Must be a bit of an ego damper on Frye's end.
