Report: NHL plans April 26 reinstatement hearing for Bertuzzi
April 20, 2005
CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- The NHL plans a hearing April 26 to decide on reinstating Todd Bertuzzi, who was suspended indefinitely after decking Colorado forward Steve Moore with a punch that broke his neck, the Canadian Broadcasting Co. reported.

NHL spokesman Frank Brown confirmed Monday a meeting was planned with Bertuzzi but would not say when, The Vancouver Province newspaper said. Bertuzzi's agent also declined to reveal the date.

Bertuzzi, of the Vancouver Canucks, pleaded guilty to criminal assault after the March 8, 2004, attack in Vancouver and was given a conditional discharge in December 2003. He could have faced up to 18 months in prison.

Moore filed suit against Bertuzzi in Denver District Court in February seeking unspecified damages.

Moore's attorney said at the time it was uncertain whether he would ever recover completely from his injuries. The Avalanche did not re-sign Moore, who is an unrestricted free agent.

Moore has said he won't stand in the way of Bertuzzi's reinstatement.

Do you think he should be allowed back in the NHL?

He should be reinstated...eventually. But not right now. He missed like what? A total of 13 games? Big fucking deal. But I wouldn't be suprised if the NHL does reinstate him because it is the NHL we're talking about here...the worst run league in the world.

What's the point of re-instating him? The only season he's missing right now is Desprate Housewives.

Even without the grammar skills, that was great Spear.

He should be reinstated, been punished severly, he deserved it and now its time to move on, he has missed the remainder of the NHL season plus the playoffs, the Calgary/ancouver series went to 7 games, and Calgary won it by one goal, so if Bertuzzi was in the lineup, there was a good chance we would of seen Vancouver advance, so basically theres something that came back and bit Bertuzzi and the Canucks orginization in the ass, now who knows if he will ever play for the Canucks again, he might want to get traded, get a new start, Naslund might not come back; so when the Canucks were so close to getting to that next level, it might be gone just like that. He was guaranteed a spot on the World Cup of Hockey tournament, which he was left off afterwards because of the suspension, he was fined half a million dollars, and now missed the World Hockey Championships, although he might be added later on if he gets reinstated. And to put the icing on the cake, he is still to face a civil suit, in which he might have to give up more money etc. He has suffered the consequences severly, and its time to let him get on with his life, i might be a little bias because he plays for the Vancouver Canucks, but if you think about it, he has done his punishment.

I agree with you SP, he should be brought back in. He made his mistake, did his time and is genuinely remorseful.
