Default Randy Johnson open to a trade?

Randy Johnson would consider waiving his no-trade clause if the Arizona Diamondbacks want to deal him to a contender.

After deflecting inquiries about a deal for 30 minutes during the National League All-Star player availability Monday, the Big Unit finally answered the big question.

"I haven't been approached by the Diamondbacks yet to waive my no-trade clause,'' he said. "The only way I would probably want to leave would be that I'm benefiting the Diamondbacks in leaving. I think I'd be doing that because they wouldn't have to pay my salary -- it could go toward helping somewhere else.''

Johnson, a five-time Cy Young Award winner, said the last-place Diamondbacks also would be benefit from ``the players they got in return.

Now, this is just a guess... but I can see him going to the New York Yankees...

He's basically saying, if the Diamondbacks can do better without me and capitalize on the money saved and spent, they should.

But D-Backs owner Jerry Coliangelo has already stated that they very much want Rndy to stay in Arizona.

So if the balls in the owners court, the owner wants to keep him.

I personally am a Diamondbacks fan through and through. I think that following up the firing of Bob Brenly by trading Johnson is only pouring fuel on the fire.

They need to stick the remainder of this season out with dignity, and make some excellent and expensive aquisitions in the off season. Sexson has already expressed his desire to stay in Arizona after he heals.

Maybe he will go to the Yankees...I'd like to see it, but only under one circumstance: Giambi gets traded. I can't stand the guy. Stick thinks Jete'rs overrated? Look at Giambi. He's an All-Star, but how'd he get it? Just because the fans. I'd wish the commisioners or managers would vote on this type of thing, that way, hard working, dedicated, all-around great player (like Tino Martinez, Bobby Abreu, etc.) would get voted on.

But seeing Randy in pinstripes wouldn't bother me

One thing is for certain, Arizona had better not trade Randy without getting something great out of it. No need for Arizona to just throw away players.
