The New Jersey Devils shored up their defence on Monday, signing unrestricted free agent blueliner Richard Matvichuk.

It is a four-year contract worth $7.2 million US.

Matvichuk, 31, made $2.2 million US last season with the Dallas Stars. He spent his entire 12-year career with the team, scoring 38 goals and 167 points in 733 games.

``We're delighted that he's coming aboard,'' Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said Monday on a conference call. ``He brings size, experience, and he's also been part of a winning organization, winning a Cup.

``I just like the way he plays.''

The Devils also re-signed winger Grant Marshall to a three-year, $3 million deal.

lol...well I hope NJ fans can suffer the pain I had to with having this guy on your team. I use to like him, but he has really went downhill lately. This year in the playoffs he was the worst player for Dallas. I forget what the actually stat was (The playoffs were awhile, soooo...) but he was probably on the ice for 90% or the goals allowed. When he was supposed to be in front of the net he was either behind it or off to the side. It drove me nuts. Maybe some of you remember me bitching about him during the playoffs. I'm so happy he's gone.

All I remember was him taking out Forsberg in the 1999 WCF

He was a -4 in the playoffs
