Default Allen talks to Raiders, Lions

Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl guard Larry Allen visited the Oakland Raiders Monday and Tuesday, and is going to Detroit for a visit Thursday with hopes of facilitating a trade before the draft.

Allen's days with the Cowboys are over. Coach Bill Parcells didn't like Allen's work ethic and stamina. At times, Allen wanted to come out of games to rest and Parcells would ignore him.

The Raiders have had their eye on Allen since he played at Sonoma State. The Cowboys drafted him in the second round of the 1994 draft, and he emerged as one of the best offensive linemen of this era. Allen has been a dominating blocker and force on the Cowboys line.

At 32, Allen is looking for a new start.

The Cowboys are asking for a mid-round choice to trade him, and they would prefer a trade instead of making him a June 1 cap casualty. Allen's cap number is $8.233 million. The Cowboys have $10.1 million left under the cap because they plan to make the move before June and get value for Allen.

The difference between Allen's salary and the cap hit for letting him go would be about $4.5 million, leaving the Cowboys $5.7 million for the draft and for free agency.

The Raiders would have to make roster room to acquire him. They have nine veteran offensive linemen locked in for next year's team if right tackle Lincoln Kennedy comes back.

The Lions don't have a true right guard. Recently signed David Loverne and Josh Lovelady are left to battle for the right guard position. Ray Brown started their last year and isn't expected to be invited back.

Well its going to hurt not having him in Dallas, but then you can't really count on him this season anyways even if he wanted to play. The thing i'm more worried about is the cap hit their going to take. I hope they can get a good pick for him though. The Raiders seem like a good home for him though.
