Default Stars can kiss the Pacific Division title goodbye...

With the Dallas Stars in a fight for playoff positioning and a possible Pacific Division title, they will be without another key player. This time it's not due to injury, but a suspension. The NHL suspended goal Marty Turco four games Thursday for a high sticking incident in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win in Edmonton.

A little more than midway through the first period Turco hit Edmonton forward Ryan Smyth in the face with his stick during a scramble in front of the Dallas net. Turco received a double minor and Smyth needed some stitches to repair the damage.

After the game, Turco said he was not intentionally trying to hit or injure Smyth.

"I didn't hit Smytty in the face on purpose," Turco told the Ticker after the game. "It was an accident. That's all I'm going to say about that."

His coach defended him as well.

"Smyth hit him in the face with a stick and Marty brings his stick up and he cut him," Stars coach Tippett told the Ticker. "It's just like any other high-sticking minor. He drew blood, it was four minutes and that's it. There were two sticks, one guy had a mask on and the other didn't. That's the only difference."

This is the second time Turco has been suspended in his NHL career, so under the CBA he is considered a repeat offender. Last season he was suspended one game after hitting Colorado forward Peter Forsberg in the head with his stick.

Turco will forfeit $195,121.96 in salary for this latest incident. He will be eligible to play April 4 against Chicago, which is the final regular season game.

While Turco is out that will leave the goaltending to backup Ron Tugnutt, who has played in only eight games this season, including five starts. Tugnutt is 3-3-0 with a 1.95 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. His last start was a 4-0 win in Chicago on March 14.

The Stars are recalling Jason Bacashihua from Utah to be the backup.

Well this really fucking sucks. Fuck! I'm so pissed right now. The Stars were making a huge push for the divison title, and now this happens. I might sound biased, but I think 4 games is a little to much. You heard it from me first...the Stars are going on a four game losing streak.

That really sucks for the Stars as they've been on a tear as of late. Just hope that the players infront of Tugnutt pick up some of the slack.

I kinda think 4 games is a little much as well comparing it to the fact that Messier only got 2 games for spearing that one guy.

The only game he played good in was against the Oilers. He made some really nice saves too. It was the defense that let the Stars down in that game. But ya, the other two games he didn't play that good...like usual.

....and thats four staight. That proves how bad Tugnutt really is. They did have some key players injured throughout those games, but they still could of won one game.
