Default Gonchar traded...

The Washington Capitals further slashed payroll via trade Wednesday, sending defenseman Sergei Gonchar to the Boston Bruins.

The trade was reported by TSN, a Canadian cable sports network, on its Web site Wednesday.

Sources told TSN that the Caps likely will acquire Boston defenseman Shaone Morrisonn and two draft picks. The deal will not be official until the teams report it to the league.

In order to reduce payroll, the Capitals have jettisoned Jaromir Jagr, Peter Bondra and Robert Lang in recent trades. Gonchar, 29, is in the final year of a four-year, $13.95 million contract that will pay him $3.65 million this season.

Gonchar's 49 points are tops among NHL defensemen.

Well i'm mad that Dallas didn't get him. But at the same time I am extremely happy that Toronto didn't get him. I'm actually really suprised that he was traded to Boston. There not usually known for adding guys with the bigger contracts.

Yeah Boston was looking to add someone, they have to keep up with the rest of the big teams in the east.

Good move on their part.

I'm pissed that the Devils havn't done anything, it's ridiculous.

well, the Caps continue the fire sale.....sheesh.....I guess this way they did get something in return when they knew they wouldn't resign him after the season.....

they have officially called it a season.....these guys probably won't win five more games this year.....morale has to be pretty low on that team now.....

They acquired Viktor Koslov from Florida, its about time we had some size in the forwards.

Wow, I didn't see that one coming.

Looks like the Leafs should go after Brian Leetch now.

Alright, glad to see they made some type of move. With all these big names moving around the East I was starting to wonder if they were going to do anything at all.
