Ok... the thread topic IS... Greg Maddux signing with the hated New York Yankees... it's been confirmed by a few different stations... including SportsCenter... so... they add another All-Star in Maddux... what is next for the Yankees? World Series title?

I'll stick with what I believe, and that is the team with the best preperation, and heart will win... the Yankees depends on their stars to pull games out for them... I think you need to be able to depend on everyone, and the coaches to make good decisions. So, we'll see if the payroll happy Yankees manage to actually win it all this year... or fall short due to lack of intensity again... should be a good year.

What are your thoughts?

Let them have them , personally I wanted to see him in Chicago.

This is beginning to look like the LA Lakers offseason. You get 2 future hall of famers in the off season and pretty much everyone gave them 70 wins and the NBA title, but what have they done....Jack and Schitt. Malone got hurt, Shaq got hurt, Phil Jackson is banging the owners daughter and Kobe supposedly "raped" a girl.

The point being, this season is FAR from over.

Maddux a Yankee? So what? Did anyone see what he did last season? He sucked pretty much. He's a 5-6 inning guy now, and he gets lit up every other outing. Let him go there and fuck them over with his over the hill pitching.

Regardless of how he played last year, that guy has an unhitable split-finger... and he will always be one of the greatest pitchers... he's a legend... just another guy Stein Stein threw money around to get.

Now NY Post is denying it.

February 17, 2004 -- Yankee GM Brian Cashman said it on a conference call. A close friend of Greg Maddux insisted the Hall of Fame-bound pitcher doesn't want to pitch on the East Coast. So, there is nothing to a report that Maddux and the Yankees are close to deal that would put Maddux in pinstripes.
Speaking on a conference call yesterday to officially announce the Alex Rodriguez trade, Cashman said Maddux, a free agent, wouldn't be joining the Yankees, who have five starters and insist they aren't about to add to a MLB-high payroll of $187.5 million.
According to a friend, Maddux had the chance to pitch for the Red Sox, who were interested in signing him but declined because he didn't want to play for an East Coast team.

Instead, Maddux is likely to sign with the Cubs or the Dodgers shortly. The Cubs reportedly raised their initial offer of two years at $10 million (combined) to more like the $14 million to $15 million range.

As brilliant as Maddux has been, the Yankees have no room for him since they are committed to Mike Mussina, Javier Vazquez, Kevin Brown, Jose Contreras and Jon Lieber as their five starters.

Maddux turned down a Yankee offer in 1992 before signing with the Braves.

After the A-Rod signing, one Yankee official said, "We aren't increasing the payroll one dollar."

Last time I make a thread on something ESPN said, before I know it's been confirmed and completed...
