Default Lebron not dunking.....

Associated Press
CLEVELAND -- LeBron James says he won't compete in the Slam Dunk contest during the NBA's All-Star weekend next month because of the ankle injury that has sidelined him for three games.

The Cleveland rookie was picked Tuesday to play in the Rookie Challenge, an event that the league has moved from Saturday to Friday night in prime time.

James and his good friend, Denver's Carmelo Anthony, will be teammates against a squad of the league's second-year players featuring Houston center Yao Ming and Cavs forward Carlos Boozer.

The All-Star starters will be named Thursday and James is not expected to be one of them. He was fourth in fan voting for the team, trailing Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady and Jason Kidd.

However, James still has a chance to be named to the East team as a reserve.

--------------------------------------------------------

that's too bad.....he could've brought a lot of excitement to the dunk contest.....seems like none of the stars ever want to be in the contest anymore.....that's why nobody gives a rip about it these days.....

sidenote:.....when did Lebron and Carmello become "good" friends?.....odd....

They have been good friends since high school... the media is just trying to make it into a big rivalry... like Shaq vs. Yao... to attract viewers.

On topic - Yeah that kind of sucks, but I'm sure we'll see some excitement from the other guys participating in the dunk contest... I also wonder if Peja can win his 3rd straight 3-point shooting contest. Probably, lol.

think of the hype that could've gotten.....Lebron vs Carmello, one on one for the title.....alas, we'll never have 'Nique vs MJ again.....

I Never Felt Mello Was A "Good Dunker"...He's More Of A Great Player Than A Flashy Dunker...Now Bron Is More Of A Monster Dunker...He Can Power It In, But He Also Doesn't Have IMHO The Ability To Pull Of A Good Lookin' Dunk Like Jason Richardson Can...They Wouldn't Get The Style Points Like Say A Desmond Mason Or Dawyne Wade...But Bron Is Vicous With His Throw Downs

you are absolutely corrct, Slash.....but, who wants to see Jason Richardson dunk?......not many people......he's an average player on an average team.....the dunk contest has lost its luster......

'Nique vs MJ, Spud vs 'Nique......Dr J vs anybody.....they may not have even had the best dunkers in the field, but they tried to have the superstars in the contest.....

now, if Vinsanity and 'Bron were there.....along with T-Mac and Kobe.....Amare Stoudamire and Garnett.....that'd be a dunk contest.....just because of the star power.....

i personally like Desmond Mason quite a bit......but he's not the answer for ratings.....

I'm not big into basketball but I've always loved the Dunk contests but I agree with you oeo, they certainly arenít as good as they used to be.

Seems like these guys go into in once and that's it or don't go in at all for that matter.

Hate to say this, but it would just give players like Rasheed Wallace another reason to whine about the players being pulled around by a leash... no need to force anyone in the NBA to be in a dunk contest... people that go in can dunk, may not be superstars... but as long as they put on a good show.

(Gerald Wallace from the Kings for an example, not that great of a player, but has awesome hops.)

I agree I would like to see Kobe back in it, but players like Amare and KG just wouldn't be fun to watch, they're more power dunkers than finesse...

Nonetheless, I'm sure the players will do whatever they can to put on a good show when the time comes.

And hopefully they don't go back to that wheel crap, to spin to find out what dunk you will to do, that was just plain stupid... let people come up with their own stuff.

Lmao. As a Cavs fan, I thought you were talking about his actual game. I really would rather see LeBron rest his ankle and be healthy for the games that count. While the Cavs are probably mathematically out of playoff contention by now, it'd be nice to end the season closer to .500.

Besides, the dunk contest is just a parody of itself now. All the really good stuff has already been done, so it's challenging for these guys to break new ground.

I would also like to add that LeBron isn't dunking...enough. The Cavs usually have him on the point or at the 2, but he doesn't go into the paint with the ball that often, and I think that's a part of his game that he needs to pick up. He already proved wrong the haters who said he couldn't shoot, now he needs to sell some posters, if ya feel me.

Late.
