Default Jays re-sign Halladay

ESPN.com news services
Roy Halladay has avoided arbitration, signing a four-year, $42 million deal with the Blue Jays, The Toronto Globe and Mail is reporting.

The Blue Jays have called an 11:45 a.m. ET news conference to announce the deal, according to the report.

Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper reports the 2003 American League Cy Young award winner will earn $6 million this season, $10.5 million next year and $12.75 million in the two final seasons of the contract. He had been seeking $9 million while the Blue Jays offered $6.5 million in salary arbitration figures exchanged earlier this week. Halladay went 22-7 season with a 3.25 ERA for the Blue Jays en route to his first Cy Young. He made $3.8 million for the Blue Jays last season.

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi would not comment on the report Wednesday. Team president Paul Godfrey would only tell the newspaper that ''we're still working away on it.''
===============

Well I am very happy the Jays locked him up. He is the future of this team. I just wish they would spend more money like this on more pitchers.

Yeah this is good news, hopefully the Jays can improve on what they did last year.

They have some good young guys so they have the chance to get better.

Nice move but they'll still be battling for third place with Baltimore all season long.
