Default some baseball moves

The Yankees traded Nick Johnson, Juan Rivera, and Randy Choate to the Expos for Javier Vazquez.

The Cubs signed LaTroy Hawkins to a three year deal

The Twins traded Eric Milton to the Phillies for some minor league players

The Marlins signed Mike Lowell to a 4 year contract extension

I think the trade between the Yanks and the Expos was a fair deal for both teams. The Yanks gave up alot to get Javier but he fills a need now that Clemens and Wells are gone. He becomes a free agent after the season but I think the Yanks are probably gonna sign him to an extension cause there is no way they would trade Johnson for a pitcher they will control for only one year. As for the Expos side of the deal they got a great hitter in Johnson who should hit 300 a year and gain his power stroke as he gets older. Alot of scouts are high on Rivera. He has some talent so let's see what he can do playing full time. I really like the Hawkins signing for the Cubs. He gives them a bridge to the closer they really didn't have last season. Add this to the trade to get Derek Lee and it is looking like the Cubs could be the front runners in the NL next year. This trade for Milton was a good trade for the Phillies. They didn't have to give up any of their top pitching prospects to get him. You add him to Myers, Wolf, and Padilla and you could possibly have 4 15 game winners. The Phils also added Billy Wagner from the Astros. Could we be seeing the end of the Braves run as division champs coming?
