Default Abe on top of the list

Lincoln ranked best president by historians

WASHINGTON – Just days after the nation honored the 200th anniversary of his birth, 65 historians ranked Abraham Lincoln as the nation's best president.

Former President George W. Bush, who left office last month, was ranked 36th out of the 42 men who had been chief executive by the end of 2008, according to a survey conducted by the cable channel C-SPAN.

Bush scored lowest in international relations, where he was ranked 41st, and in economic management, where he was ranked 40th. His highest ranking, 24th, was in the category of pursuing equal justice for all. He was ranked 25th in crisis leadership and vision and agenda setting.

In contrast, Lincoln was ranked in the top three in each of the 10 categories evaluated by participants.

In C-SPAN's only other ranking of presidents, in 2000, former President Bill Clinton jumped six spots from No. 21 to 15. Other recent presidents moved positions as well: Ronald Reagan advanced from No. 11 to 10, George H.W. Bush rose from No. 20 to 18 and Jimmy Carter fell from No. 22 to 25.

That all depends on how you qualify "Greatest US President."

In all honesty, if today's communications technology was available during the Civil War, Abe would probably be remembered the same way George W Bush will be remembered.

He was a staunch supporter of General Sherman and Sherman's Scorched Earth tactic, which would've had today's Liberal Media up in arms. He was also the first President to greelight Black Ops (no pun intended) to be carried out inside United States Borders against United States Citizens.

Of course, back then people understood that there was a cost to freedom. They also understood that defending freedom was/is and ever shall be the most important thing a government can ever do.

They also understood that the enemies of freedom will stoop to untold depths to win the ability to oppress, and as such the defense of freedom often requires a certain level of brutality and aggression.

Basically, back then Americans for the most part, were not the complete and total pussies that they are today. Had they been, Lincoln might not have been allowed to win the Civil War.

That being said, the list is GARBAGE. Regan is #10?? More like #2.

AND FUCKING CLINTON IS # 15??~!

Seriously...aside from Monica Lewinsky...Clinton DID NOTHING as President. I guess "Entertainment Value" was a heavy factor in the determination of this "list."

AND HOW THE FUCK DID CARTER EVEN MAKE THE LIST??! HE BARELY QUALIFIES AS A PRESIDENT, LET ALONE THE 25TH BEST ONE!!

If you or someone you know has been caused grief by an "Internet Bully" then you and/or that person is nothing but a little punk ass bitch, and the world would be a better, more manly place if you'd just jump off a fucking bridge already. Late.

This is a dogshit list IMO... but most of them are.

Wilson and Kennedy belong nowhere near the top, Polk and Reagan should be much higher (especially Polk). Johnson ought to be nearer to the bottom than G.W. Bush. Nixon higher, Carter lower. The Adamses always are overrated.

I'll make my own list at some point.

That's why he was decent and things worked fairly well under his administration. Thank God for obstructionist Republicans.

I'd probably put him around 20.

God Bless America, yes it is. This country hasn't been as financially sound or internationally strong since the day he left office. Doesn't look like that's going to change much at all.

"...government programs that will invade every area of freedom as we have known it in this country until one day...we will wake to find that we have socialism, and...one of these days we are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children, what it once was like in America when men were free.
-Ronald Reagan

"In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem."
- President Ronald Reagan

"We are a nation that has a government--not the other way around."
- President Ronald Reagan

"From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else?"
- President Ronald Reagan
