Do you feel guilty when calling off work? Even if the reason you called off is 100% legit?

I always seem to have a conniption when I call off...like I feel like I should just suck it up and go in...even though I don't feel well enough to deal with my dogs let alone a ton of whining crybabies who can't seem to comprehend the simple concept of paying a fucking bill on time.

I should just relax and get over it but my mind always ends up going back to it and I end up putting myself through a pretty bad guilt trip. Logicially I know I did the right thing...but it just never seems to register emotionally.

No, not really. But I can't remember the last time I called in sick.

Yeah that has happened with me,but I haven't called in sick in almost 3 years now and people always tell me "Man you never take a sick day",and I say no even though sometimes I really do think about it.

If I'm feeling ill during work and ask to leave early I feel guilty as well.

No way. I hate my job too much to feel guilty over calling out. Tons of people always call out, and when they do, I always get shit on by being myself in my department, or having to cover someone else's department.

The way my place of employment looks at it, if you're at work and sick, then A) You're not going to be working at your optimum level of efficiency and B) you could get your co-workers sick, too.

So as long as it's not like a regular thing, they'd prefer we call out when sick. They'll send you home if you're looking green, too.

No guilt. The only thing I don't like about missing work is knowing that the coverage for my spot and my queue will be piss poor and I'll end up doing a lot of work to bring status back to normal the day I go back.

No stress though, dude. If you're sick...you're better off at home.

Late.

Yes, every single time. I am always guilty. Even when I am really sick.

My boss gives me a lecture whenever I call in sick, saying "well its you, and joe blow and jane dork who's not coming now, we are so busy today". Last time I called in sick I had the flu really bad. And my female boss (married couple owns the business) called me up at home, and abused me, for it, told me I had to come in on the Friday no matter what. I actually cried over the phone, and i'm not usually a crier. I went in Friday, was completely useless did two hours and by then I was about to collapse. And apparently I was faking the flu, and I was weak because my female boss never takes a day off and only did once because she had pnemonia and still went to work. Yeah sorry, going to work when sick doesn't make you a hero, its personal choice.

I have had a fair share of chucking sickies though.

I only called in a couple times, and one time I just didn't go but I didn't know I had to work. There's only three people who work at the store I work at so it was pretty harsh, but I had the flu.

The only time I ever felt guilty calling off of work when I needed to was when I knew I was screwing over someone I liked.

Same here. I really like most of my co-workers, and if I called off they would have to work even longer hours.

That sounds like my boss when people call in sick.

They'll call sounding sick and he'll just be like, "Whatever", and hang up the phone.I understand being upset about having to find a replacement for the day,but at least show a little bit of sympathy for them every now and then.

most of the time. but it's not guilt about the job, it's feeling bad that i screwed a co-worker.

but most of the time i go in anyway and try to make it through the day. if i can't then at least they know i tried my damnedest.

Yes! exactly, I totally agree, I hate it when he does it. I am glad I am not the only one (apart from the people I work with) who has to put up with it. Although my boss does hate me and I think I am the only worker he does it to.

Only time I felt guilty was back in the day when I worked in a butcher shop. I hated to miss Fridays or Saturdays cause I seen how busy it got. I hated to put extra work on the other guys that worked there.
