The old war = financial stability equation does not work any more for the US economy due to the fact that manufacturing is no longer solely based in the US. The boom of jobs that usually comes along with a war is nonexistent, no job boom combined with an already high unemployment rate = loss of expendable income, lack of expendable income means no boost to the gross national product, + dependency on foreign oil which is price controlled by OPEC and a whole shit load of other profiteering bullshit and BOOM recession.

This is nothing new and the US has been through many. I am not worried, this is what happens when the economy of a country switches from a production based economy to a consumer based economy. If you have no jobs making products and no income from said job but your are spending money......what happens?

the unemployment rate is fine.

http://data.bls.gov/PDQ/servlet/SurveyOutputServlet

Didn't the governor of Alaska beg to be allowed to drill for oil but got denied in order to preserve a barren uninhabitable frozen wasteland?

It's stupid that this country can't provide it's own oil. For all the things I hear crying about, universal (free) health care, socialist security and stuff, none of them ever think up what a logical thing it would be to not have to depend on people we are at war with for freaking oil. And nobody wants to make it a priority. Instead they come up with ridiculous 25 year ethanol and hydrogen and peanut oil and all manner of crazy shit. Their main concern is the environment and being self satisfied instead of being practical and efficient.

Anyways, I could go on but I'll stop ranting before I waste 3 hours doing research to make this worth reading
