I spent most of today workin on my car....

I started at 10 this mornin, I was gonna fix the horn, put on some new tires and wipers....

I got out there, and the latch to pop the hood was jammed....so I started taking apart most of the front end....
I get inside, and figure I should probably check my fluids.....the oil was in need of a change soon, so I went ahead and did the oil change...the transmission fluid seemed to be a little low, so I topped that off.

I figured, I'm changin the wipers...might as well check the fluid....that was low..I refilled that...I noticed the left spray was jammed. So I ended up taking care of that...

It occurs to me that I need to fix the horn or I'm not gonna pass safety inspection..so I refocus and get back to the task I had originally assigned myself...

Anyways...I couldn't get the button thinger to work, so I ended up taking off the steering wheel...try to pull the wires thru and put in a new button....couldn't do that so I removed most of the steering column and have to splice wires and shit to make everything work....

By the time I'm puttin everything back together its 10pm...the entire day was wasted....

I get inside, get cleaned up...and I realize...I never changed the fucking tires.
They're still sittin in the trunk.

So I get to play with the goddam car again tomorrow.

Do any of you work on your own car? or do you take it to the shop to get checked out and fixed?

LOL. my rego was due 2 weeks ago. I only fixed all that shit up on friday because i was suspended from not paying parking fines.

The car safety check was the easiest part....i stuffed a softball under my drivers seat so it wouldnt move (needs to be rewelded at the back right) drove the fucker into the mechanics to get it done. The clown hooked up some brake safety thing and he drove my car a couple of hundred yards and came back...checked the indicators and brakelights....charged me 30 bucks and i was there a total of 6 minutes

No way, I don't know much about cars, I do the easy "service" stuff, but thats it. And I have a pretty old car, so its due for fixing now.

I took it to the mechanics last week and they quoted me $280, so yeah, I am going to have to get it fixed because he said something about the steering rod and ball joints, and I know thats serious so yeah, right now i'm driving an accident waiting to happen. I forget to get it checked out alot...

I can do most everything that needs to be done on my car. I needed a new ignition switch about a year ago so I took it in for that, and for new tires. About anything else most people can do if you read into it enough. I needed a new braker booster on our Tahoe a couple months ago and I could've easily done it, I just didn't have the time.

I check and top off my fluids, I change my spark plugs and stuff if necessary, but otherwise I just take it in.

I know nothing of cars either. I just took mine in for state inspection and it passed, which was all I cared about.

I can do the simple stuff. Changing out of parts isn't a problem...however diagnostic work is not my forte. There's a couple of places that will look at the car and for $25 or $30, they'll tell me what's wrong with it.

At which point, I'll take it home and replace it. If there's something I don't know how to replace, I have any number of people I can call on to educate me on the process.

Wiring however confuses the shit out of me. I just let horns stay non functional and have developed other, certainly more crude methods of letting other drivers know in no uncertain terms that I am displeased with their behaviors.

I don't really bother, but my truck is pretty new. I used to work on my bikes and atv's a lot. But with all the shit in cars these days, I don't even want to know.
