Default Cameras

Nah this isn't a "post your pic" thread. We just bought a digital camera...samsung s730...goes through regular batteries like no other.

Whenever I see someone taking pictures, it's always a digital camera. So, my question to you is do you take a lot of pictures? Do you use film?

Digital cameras are much better...but I just think that because I'd rather use the computer than sit and look through photos.

I use digital cameras, but they're crude and vulgar.

We have a few 35mm cameras including a Canon EOS professional grade camera.

As far as overall PRINT quality, digital has NOTHING on film. To get the kind of resolution and crisp definition of pics that the EOS we use has, we would need to spend $1300 - $2500 on a digital.

If I wanted the resolution and telephoto capability that a better film camera...like a 200 + mm would...well, I don't think they make digital cameras that good, but if they did and the price points were proportional, it'd be almost $10,000 for a camera of that quality.

Seeing as how you can take film to Wal-Mart and have them exract the film quality negatives to a Photo Disc with hi res JPEG images unobtainable from a similar quality of digital camera, for professional photography, there's no need to go digital at this time.

When digital cameras are available at the same quality level and price point as cameras that use film are, then there will be a complete change.

The only thing digital has over film is convenience. Price, quality, accessiblity of commercial grade prints...all that is in favor of film.

Digital's nice if you're looking to post something on eBay though.

Late.

We use digital for everything in the studio. They are some serious rigs. Like $65,000 studio set ups. The images are amazing. And when you're directing photo shoots, you can take as many pics as you like and get instant results on a moniter. In the old days, you had to take all these poloroids and shit. What a joke. We used to shoot things on 4x5 transparancy films. I think the resolution on them is the equivalent to something like 35,000 dpi. But it turns out, nothing can actually print that high quality. Even now, highest resolution for print is 450 dpi. Unless you're Ansel Adams or some shit, and then I'd say stop taking pictures of trees...

But, if I'm feeling artsy, I still bust out my old nikon 35. My lenses will work with a newer digital body, but I just haven't found the need to invest that much money in one. Someday.

My little Canon Powershot pretty much goes everywhere I go and since it's endorsed by Maria Sharapove, then it's all good.

There is something to be said about developing your own film and doing your own prints, even though the fixer smells like shit. I spent a lot of time in the dark room during college with my headphones on. Artsy assed B&W shit is pretty fun and if any of you find yourself in the situation to actually learn about photography, I'd recommend it.

I've been thinking about going into photography, although I don't know a lot about it.

Honestly, I didn't know dick about it before I took some classes. I mean, that's why they call it school If you're interested, then they're going to teach you all the stuff you need to know. Seriously, we started with just learning how a camera works and what all that f-stop, film speed, shutter speed etc stuff means. Take a class, you'll have fun.

I did an internship for the newspaper here in town when I was a senior. And they had just gone fully digital at that point. And with the deadlines we had to meet, film would just not work. Well it would, but we wouldn't be able to spend as much time shooting. Don't get me wrong, I loved photography in high school. The shooting, developing, and printing was great. But it's just not practical in a lot of fields today to use film.
