When was the first time you voted? How old were you? Out of all the elections you have been alive to witness which did you perceive to be the most "history making" or most important?

This year's election is the first election I'm able to vote and it's also the first election that I care enough about to read about all the candidates (I started researching candidates when Ron fuckin Paul was still in the race) online and follow the stories on CNN, MSNBC and (to a much slighter extent) Fox News. Idk what the future holds for this country but either way I feel like this election is going to be the most important one for years to come, whether McCain wins or Obama wins history will be made. Your thoughts?

I agree. This is my first election too, I had to vote absentee since I'm away at college. This election is pretty historic and I, too, have been watching the news and debates, trying to stay current on the candidates.

My first presidential election was in '96 I was 20 and I voted for Lyndon LaRouche (yeah I was abit on the rebellious political side) I can't say that any election I have participated is any more or less important than the next as they all should be viewed with categorical importance.

My first election was 2000 ... I was 20.... I honestly cant recall who i voted for...

i have never voted democrat tho.

kind like dev said.. Each election should be approached and considered with equal importance. However the historical significance of this election is of note.

just a few years back the idea of a socialist black man who wants to destroy the country running against a ticket with an alaskan milf on it... It was just unheard of.

i take my patriotic duty very seriously. I take the time to research the candidates and try to decide who will best represent me....

i also see it as my duty as an american to explain to one voter each day why obama is just as dangerous as osama.

I voted for the first time a few days ago. I, like SE, voted via absentee ballot since I'm away at college. I voted for John McCain.

It's so sad that our country is so controlled by the media that they are not able to avoid socialism when left up to themselves.

I first voted in 1998...but it was some local election...my first Presidential election was 2000, I voted Bush twice, because really Gore and Kerry?

I voted already this year for McCain, since Ron Paul didn't win the primary.

I voted for Gore in 2000...Got robbed.

Voted for Bush in 2004, because Kerry seemed like a pussy.

Voted for Obama in 2008... Because McCain is old, delusional, incompotent, makes bad decisions, doesn't even have the respect of his running mate, a liar, he got caught by the enemy during a war, in pilot school he crashed a plane like 10 times, he graduated 898 out of 900 in pilot school, and he is a hypocrite.

I skipped voting in 2000...didn't give a fuck about any politics BS then.

First time voting was 2004...and I'll be voting again Tuesday. Wasn't going to but I decided that I should involve myself and quit feigning ignorance to it all. Actually Dev's one thread is part of what inspired me to get involved.

I will not be stating who I have or will be voting for...just one of those things I prefer to keep private.

I'm not trying to get you to say who you're voting for, I'm just wondering the reason why. You're not the first person I've talked to who is secretive about who they are voting for and I've never quite understood it. I understand the reason for privacy in the voting booth, that all makes perfect sense to me in that you don't want voters to be influenced by other voters. But why not say who you voted for?

I'll jump on the bandwagon and add that I've never understood why people don't like saying who they voted for.

Also, I'm 26 and have never voted. I could have voted in the past two elections, but chose not to. I'm not gonna vote in this one either. I don't follow politics at all and really couldn't tell anyone anything about any candidate.

I'm with Xero about keeping it a privacy...

I didn't turn 18 until 2004 and I didn't vote that elections...

This one I will also sit out because honestly I feel we are fucked with either one...

For me personally its just much easier to keep that very personal.

I grew up with a family that really didn't ever respect any opinions/views of mine...and its not like they would even attempt to debate me...they'd just dissmiss anything I thought and ignore me or yell at me about how wrong I am and how much my opinion doesn't matter anyways. Not every member but the ones I was around the most growing up.

That...along with watching them and others fight and bicker and become so bitter with each other over what always seemed to me like nothing more then a gigantic ideological gang war...it just seemed so silly to interject myself and my opinions/votes into that mess.

It makes sense, I guess. If only I was that way about football. You don't know how many heated arguments I get into with my friends over college football.
