Default The Return Of Segregation At The University Of Colorado At Boulder?

A few decades ago in the US, bigots wanted to separate Americans by race because they didn't think white people should have to be around blacks. But today, we have politically correct nebbeches at the University of Colorado at Boulder trying to split Americans by race because they're afraid of what will happen if black kids have to be around whites...

Quote:
"Students at the University of Colorado at Boulder can take the popular "School and Society" course on Fridays as long as they're not white.

That particular section is reserved for "students of color," according to a course description. It is also open to those of any race who are first-generation college students. Other students can take the course, which is a requirement for education majors, but during a different period.

University officials say the restricted class offers minority students "a much safer and open environment" in which to discuss issues of race, gender and class. But some students say the course represents a disturbing throwback to the days of "separate but equal" education.

... The university began offering the race-restricted course last year as an experiment in response to the concerns of minority students, said Lorrie Shepard, dean of the School of Education.

"Often, a student of color would find they were the only nonwhite person in a given section, and ... very often, their class would turn to them whenever an issue of race was discussed," Miss Shepard told the Boulder Daily Camera. "They'd be asked if they agreed with a certain perspective or to defend a position. They'd be put on the spot in ways that made it feel like a hostile environment."
I could spend a couple of paragraphs riffing on all the things that are wrong with this sort of thinking, but Antonia Gaona, a Hispanic student who's suing over this class, has got it down pat...

Quote:
"I'm frustrated with programs like this because they force students to identify themselves on the basis of race," Miss Gaona said. "This is something students my age are trying to get beyond, being identified on the basis of their skin color.

"It's like the university feels it needs to coddle minority students and have us work with students who only look like us, and that's not how the real world works," she added."
Hey Antonia, fight those creeps at the University of Colorado at Boulder who are treating you like a skin color instead of a person...and beat 'em. You're doing the right thing and I salute you...

My take on that is they Are taking the White Black issue and putting it also on the other as they call it minorities. So back in the day there was an issue but like this says well now because you are a minority. It is racism pure and simple I mean come on why would you make a class of just students of color as they put it. Well i would wonder why as for her explanation why dont they just try to get a mixture of everyone in all the classes if there are tha many complaints. Or better yet who cares what color you are racism is there on every level from every color. And it wont go away especially when you segregate them again.

Lmao, ain't it the truth. Personally, I think that would be a great after class program provided by the Univesity to minorities and first-generation collegians, but to offer it as anything other than a remedial class that doesn't count as points toward the student's degree would be inappropriate, because being a minority isn't a pre-requisite that white kids can fulfill, and that would be racist policy.

The idea itself has merit, though. Think about what she said with a black student being asked a question that would involve his/her opinion with regard to a racially charged scenario. That's not fair because that student will have to put his/her opinion up for public scrutiny in the class and beyond.

A black person's opinion of any issue of race is the by-product of that person's life experience, and is relevant no matter how inane or how convoluted it may be. A person's ethnicity should be a source of pride, not a subject for debate. No student of any color should be made to defend his or her ethnicity in a classroom, that isn't learning, it's anything from Q & A to a witchhunt.

The best case scenario is that yes, suburban white kids can allow themselves to learn from the experiences of a black student...if any are isolated enough to have never seen a "real live" black person before. The worst case scenario is that you get a bunch of students yelling back and forth at one another about racism, which is never a good thing to have happen.

College is indeed a place to learn, and it'd be beneficial for minority college students to have a workshop or weekly after hours "class" to help them sort out issues that they have with race and ethnicity. However to offer it as an accredited course without allowing white people the opportunity of taking it would be wrong, and in a place like Colorado, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Late.

If you or someone you know has been caused grief by an "Internet Bully" then you and/or that person is nothing but a little punk ass bitch, and the world would be a better, more manly place if you'd just jump off a fucking bridge already.
