Yeah, In a lot of ways The Montreal Screwjob was one of the best things to ever happen to the WWF, it created a great Heel character for Vince McMahon, a character that combined with Stone Colds neck injury at SummerSlam 1997 created a feud that would eventually help WWF beat WCW in the Monday night ratings war.

Bret Hart would still be in the company. He wouldn't have a Feud with Vince McMahon. There would be no nWo 2000. World Wrestling Federation would still be losing in the Monday Night Wars due to the New World Order storyline which brought in more viewers and bumped the ratings up. Bret Hart would still be in good condition since he wouldn't have been speared from Bill Goldberg. A lot wouldn't have happened if there was no Montreal Screwjob. Bret Hart would have made Raw more watchable because he could have had some great matches with the Rock, Triple H, Kurt Angle, and some more guys. So the WWF would somehow went to a different direction. The Attitude Era wouldn't be created because it was still the New Generation Era.

its possible... if I remember correctly Prior to Montreal, for storyline purposes Vince was just an announcer and Gorilla Monsoon was the President of WWE and in reality Bret had signed a 20 year contract
without Montreal Bret would have stayed, Vince wouldn't have been outed and WWE would have continued with the 'hands off''authority figure I think ECW did have Heyman on Camera, and WCW was about to or had just revealed Eric as the nWo's inside man... so the precedent was set... but w/o Montreal they could have played the card with a fictional Power and kept Vince on the Mic or controlled the circumstances in which Vince was revealed also its a fair bet that Had Bret stayed for 20 years, meaning his deal would expire in 2017-- he'd have moved over to agent or Booker as early as 2000 also I think that the Blurred reality in Montreal, lent an X factor to WWE making them more appealing to a certain subset of Fans... it created a feeling of Those nWo Guys are cool, but they have had a year and a half and still haven't taken over. but in WWE Vince just made the Ref screw the champ, and took a Loogy from an authentically Pissed Off superstar Not to mention the Evil Vince' Character opened the door for the anti-hero Stone Cold |

No but Mr Mcmahon may have never become the main villain. They were already movign toward the Attitude Era with the DX vs Harts storyline and Stone Cold moving up. I'm not sure who would've been the main villain, maybe HHH.
