Default Is it true that actor David Arquette is a former World Heavyweight champion?

One of my friends and I were discussing if David Arquette and Courtney Cox would get back together. And we both happen to be wrestling fans, and my friend brought up that David Arquette once won the World Heavyweight championship. I bust out laughing, because I figure he's gotta be joking, because David Arquette is not even a wrestler, he's an actor! But he swore that he was not joking around. But if this is true, can someone tell me when this happened, and what wrestling company it happened in?

It's hard to believe but yes. It was after filming the WCW produced movie Ready to Rumble. He didn't wrestle long though. Less than a month or so.

Yes it's true. On the April 26, 2000 episode of WCW Thunder, David Arquette pinned Eric Bischoff in tag team match to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Arquette's partner was Diamond Dallas Page and Bischoff's partner was Jeff Jarrett. DDP was the champion going into the match but the stipulation was that whoever scored the pinfall or submission would win the World Heavyweight Championship. Arquette pinned Bischoff and became champion.

Tony Schiavone pitched the Idea to make David Arquette WCW World Champion to Vince Russo, Russo loved the idea and made David Arquette WCW World Champion after WCW was on it's path to destruction.

Sadly this is true,

Vince Russo while head writer of WCW and as an act of synergy with the Film Ready to Rumble (starring Arquette and half the WCW Roster) decided to make him WCW Champion

If I recall, he held the belt for like a week -- just long enough to take the strap on his Talk show tour to promote the film... and not long either before or After Arquette's run, Russo also made himself champion as well -- it is these two runs, along with some of his other WCW killing moves that has people nervous about what he's doing in TNA
