It depends who holds it

Short title reigns make things more exciting/interesting but long title reigns is what gets the respect and makes a superstar a real champion

I agree it depends on who holds it. But most likely i think i like short title reigns better. Why? Because well you get to see a lot of different superstars hold that title instead of one person for months i mean it gets boring because you know they aren't going to lose it for a while and there matches will be so much predictable. Short Reigns... You get to see a lot of Mid Carders move up to the Main Event level and fight for the title. But i do like Long Title Reigns only if that superstar has never holded an title before or holded it once or twice. I think then that superstar deserves to hold that title for a while and make a name from him/her self.

Long title reigns. It proves that they are real champions by holding on to it for a long peiond of time instead of being clasified as an interm champion. Don't get much respect from the fans for having it that short period.

I have to add my answer to the depends file.

If the champ is a heel, then long. If the champ is a face, then short.

I am a fan of the angles where the heroic face must battle hurtle after hurtle to get the championship, while the cheating, cowardly heel escapes losing the title by inches, and then boasts and brags as if it were no contest.

If a face is the champ, and then just keeps beating attacking heel after attacking heel, then it gets boring fast, and often times that wrestler gains a lasting and unflattering reputation. (search John Cena here on yahoo answers to see what I mean)

Long title reigns can be boring whether heel or face, but if you use it right, it can gain more suspense, much like how undertakers WM match is always suspenseful, because you have to wonder if they are actually going to let someone beat him. You always think no, but there is always that possibility. If a heel has a belt for several months or more, it becomes more interesting and suspenseful to see if they are going to let someone else have the belt or not. It becomes a big push if someone finally beats a guy who has had it for a long time. It is especially fun when the heel is arrogant about it and brags on the length of his title reign.

So I guess my vote has to go for long reigns, but only if they play it right, and usually if it is a heel with the belt.

Long reigns, and the answer is simply this.

If the title changes hands every month, then being a champion means nothing. Long reigns from dominant superstars give the title exactly what it needs to be taken seriously, credibility.

H.Poirot says it best

For heels its long reigns. Compelling television is about watching the hero struggle to finally conquer evil. Once they actually get the belt, its like in a sense that purpose is gone. Look at Orton. His reactions have been far less now that he's champion. Also what long heel reigns can do, is they almost ensure the face that beats that heel becomes an instant star. And if you know who you want winning the title next, you can build that guy up over that time and make the title change mean something. Off course there are exceptions to this. A long face reign can be good if match quality is great, good feuds are being produced etc But more often than not faces are better off having short reigns or they risk becoming stale. Also people would rather pay money to see the heel vanquished for the title than pay to see the face retain.
