Default Friday Night Smackdown: Episode 20: Rate and Review + BQ?

We open with the usual pyro and a video package airs, showing what happened last week on Smackdown and the main event match between MVP and Chris Jericho. Tonight's Smackdown will be headlined by Edge vs Christian, on the final Smackdown before SummerSlam. John Cena will also be in action against Big Show.

Match 1: Daniel Bryan vs Jack Swagger.

Great match to get us started here tonight. Some great technical wrestling. They go back and forth throughout, with Swagger on top as the match progresses. Just when it looks like Bryan will get back into it, Swagger shifts the momentum again and locks in the Ankle Lock. Bryan is unable to get to the ropes and is forced to submit. Swagger celebrates as we go to commercials.

Match 2: Matt Hardy vs Ted DiBiase.

Another decent match. Hardy gains the upper hand and is hitting a lot of offense on DiBiase, but Ted begins to turn things around. The end comes when DiBiase goes to hit Dream Street, but Hardy counters and hits Twist of Fate. Hardy pins DiBiase and picks up the deserved victory.

Edge is backstage with Todd Grisham. He is asked what is running through his head as Sunday approaches. Edge says that he has never been so confident in himself and says that he is probably the favourite going into the match. He says that Cena can talk about having the most determination all he likes, but says that he has more heart than Cena will ever have. He walks off to prepare for his match against Christian later on tonight and we go to commercials.

Match 3: CM Punk vs Tyler Black.

Match made in heaven right here tonight. Everything you would expect from these two. Lots of technical grappling, mixed in with some highflying spots. The end comes when Punk goes to lock in the Anaconda Vise on Black, but Tyler escapes. He hits God's Last Gift on Punk and then pins him for the well deserved victory. Bryan comes out after the match and they have a confrontation. Bryan will meet Black in two days at SummerSlam.

Match 4: John Cena vs Big Show.

Great battle, as you would expect. Big Show dominates throughout the opening exchanges of the match, but Cena uses his determination to get himself back into the contest. Cena begins to work over Big Show, but the big man turns the tide again. The end comes when Show goes for the Chokeslam on Cena, but Cena reverses. He lifts Show off the ground in an amazing feat of strength and hits an FU. Cena pins Show and picks up the victory, around the 10 minute mark.

Match 5: Kofi Kingston vs Rey Mysterio.

Great, highflying match. They battle back and forth throughout and it becomes increasingly harder to predict the winner as the match progresses, with both of these men continuing to cancel each other out. Kingston eventually makes the vital breakthrough, when he dodges an attempted kick from Rey and then hits Trouble In Paradise. Kingston pins Rey and picks up the deserved victory in a great match.

Match 6: Edge vs Christian.

Main event time here tonight on Smackdown. Two former tag team partners who will face off in a Triple Threat Match this Sunday square off in singles action. Edge works over Christian in the opening stages of the match, but Christian builds a head of steam and gets himself back into it. The match goes to the outside and they battle at ringside for a few moments. Christian sends Edge flying right over the announce table and Matt Striker gets taken out. The fight eventually gets back into the ring and they continue to exchange some of their most offensive moves. The end eventually comes when Christian goes to hit Killswitch on Edge, but Edge counters. Edge hits a Spear on Christian and then pins him for the deserved victory. Edge barely has time to celebrate, when Cena's music hits. Cena comes running down the ramp and now him and Edge are going at it. Cena and Edge are still fighting, as Smackdown goes off the air.

Great show. Main event was great. Like how the match was evenly contested, it now shows sense of un-predictabillity for the summerslam match. Edge deserved the victory and now has momentum which could play a big part at SummerSlam. Bryan-Swagger was good, glad it was given time cause it could've been an easy 5 star match. SummerSlam card looks good. The heated rivalry with Orton and Miz ends. Can't wait to see the victor. Exciting and should be a good match. Great build-up towards HHH and Morrison could make out to be a good match. Hope it is and I sure think it is. The Christian-Edge and Cena build up us epic. Loved the main event ending. Christian is the under-dog but you always have the underdogs. I hope Cena wins. Del Rio and Jericho is awesome. Definitely a great match. Both have good mic skills and in-ring skills. Bryan vs. Black will be the best. 2 of the best in the world fighting it out. Can't wait for this one. As always, fantastic show. SummerSlam is, what I'm expecting to be, off da hook.

9.5/10.
