...badly by Sheamus? This is a guy you are giving a push to, right? And there are much better targets to beat up on in the back...............instead you choose Daniel Bryan, your intercontinental champ????

Yeah it was a bad idea it made him look weak if they wanted to do that then they should have at least made Daniel Bryan put up a good fight

It was stupid, it made the US Championship look weak, it made Daniel Bryan, The Miz, and John Morrison all look weak. There were many other superstars they could've had Sheamus beat up such as Primo, Santino Marella, or Zack Ryder. But instead they chose him to beat up a champion, which was stupid.

Pushes are complicated things. Most of the time you do not want to push a guy too hard, because if you shove someone down everyones throat, it feels unnatural, and people don't have enough time to formulate any real positive feelings toward him. This is especially true with faces, as the goal is to have you like him. With a guy like Sheamus, it works easier, because the goal of a heel is to be disliked, so you are not risking too much by over pushing.

With new guys, the main goal of any push is to get you to be familiar with the wrestler, at the level you intend him to be at for the foreseeable future.

In Bryan's case, they are content to have him at the US champion level, but only just. Therefore he is a mid-card wrestler, with eventual top tier hopes. When they had Sheamus beat him in an obvious squash match, they were establishing Bryan's level. He is at a level with Miz, but not at the level of Sheamus. They were also establishing Sheamus' level as a legitimate top tier main eventer, and adding to his character by seeing how he reacts to a defeat. As Sheamus WAS quick pushed, and his initial championship wins were questionable, wwe has to occasionally establish that he is still worthy of the level they have placed him at. He beat Khali with little difficulty last week, so it is no surprise that he made short work of Danny boy.

Also, if in a few months to a year, Bryan is able to fight and defeat Sheamus, it will prove that he has gone up in quality and skill, from this time.

A defeat, even a bad one, does not necessarily mean the end of a push. No one likes it when a face wins all the time. The best thing you can do with a face, is to have him overcome a hated enemy that everyone belives is too much for him. A face who seems like he cannot be defeated gets blasted by fans on sites like this, like Super-Cena and the five moves of Doom.

A good way to establish a face, is to push, then back off, and push, and back off. You get used to seeing him where he is, you get to know him in victory and defeat, and you form a more natural opinion of him, based on a long period of time. This lets WWE know who is going to resonate with the fans better.

WWE has a lot of new guys, and not everyone can be on top. They have to find ways of establishing a pecking order. Bryan is a US champ. If they wanted to stop pushing him altogether, they would have had miz or morrison beat him for the belt. So dont think of it as bad for Bryan, so much as good for Sheamus.

Good Idea. They wanted to show how Vicious is the Celtic Warrior.
