Same reason why fish hooking and knees on the ground are not allowed....its dangerous and there has to be a line set.

Because the spine and back are the most easily hurt spots on the human body and can cause all kinds of problems with other parts if they are injured. Hit a person in the back at the wrong part you paralyze a person.

Because main parts of the nervous system run down the spine, and with the strength of those UFC punches, they could really do some serious damage. If struck hard enough in the spine or certain parts of the back, it could cause unnatural spasm, permanent soreness, or even paralysis. Originally, back in the early 90's, UFC had two rules: No biting and no eye-gouging. That was it. Over the years, people began to get really hurt, so rules and regulations slowly began to be added on. Eventually, the UFC rule set we all know today came into effect. The most recent rule to be added was after UFC 94. It stated that corner men were disallowed from bringing vaseline into the octagon, and vaseline had to be applied outside the octagon before the first round.

This is the Wrestling section, not the UFC section. Look for the MMA section.
