Default Why do wrestlers have puffy looking ears?

I think that this is so gross and disgusting whenever I see it but I always notice that wrestlers have puffy ears and they look all swollen. Is there a reason as to why it looks this way and how that even occurs? It looks painful actually.

Its called the cauliflower ear it is the result of not wearing the protective head gear. Its one of the many causalities of wrestling....it is also a badge of honor....real wrestlers have battle scars.

It's called cauliflower ear. If the external portion of the ear suffers a blow, a blood clot or other fluid may collect under the perichondrium, (dense irregular connective tissue that forms around the cartilage of a developing bone.) This separates the cartilage from the overlying perichondrium that is its source of nutrients, causing the cartilage to die. This leads to a formation of fibrous tissue in the overlying skin. When this happens, the outer ear becomes permanently swollen and deformed, resembling a cauliflower.

Sweetie, is called cauliflower ears due to the amount of strikes a wrestler

receives in the ring. They can't do nothing about this except try to protect

themselves more in the ring that's one of the prices these superstars pay

in addition to being away from home almost the entire year. If you watch

UFC Randy The Natural Couture has some very very puffy ears in MMA.
