Probably a bit nostalgic depending on who the referee was. I dont want to sound like those idiots who say 'you do know the WWE is pre-planned - right?' because they piss me off, but HBK's retirement match was probably pre-planned for a LONG time in advance and the referee probably got rid of all his sadness in advance.

I do see where you are coming from though, I would have hated to have been the guy who is, in all eventuality, the one responsible for extiniguishing Shawn Michaels epic career.

If it was me, I would do it like you're user name as I count the pin. 1-Thank, 2-You, 3-Shawn!

If I was Charles Robinson, (the ref for that match), I'd probably feel pretty out-of-it after counting that fall. After he did it, I can guarantee you all of Michaels great matches just ran through his head before he realized he just ultimately ended the storied and epic career of one of the greatest people to ever set foot in a professional wrestling ring. He's been in that company since 2001, so he probably knew Shawn pretty well and talked to him after, (and probably before), the match. Just like Behold the King! I don't want to sound like one of those douches that answer every question by saying that wrestling is staged, but Robinson probably knew he was going to end Michaels career, so he probably thought about it pretty hard before the match. Either way, that was an amazing match to end an amazing career.

Felt bad I know I would. To tell you the truth I probably wouldn't finish the pin count.
