Default Why do people think when you use wrestling throws and techniques you know karate?

Iam a Wrestler. When a Jackass tried to stab me with a knife for fun,I defended my self and used the Arm Bar on the Jackass. After I threw the guy,he ran away.People who saw the fight where going around saying ''Did you see that guy do that Karate technique'' and were pointing at me.This pissed me off because Karate doesn't use the same kind of throw I did!Seriously karate hardly even emphasizes basic grappling! Why did these people assumed I know karate?

Its just not me who is angry. One time my wrestling coach tries to stop a fight in a cafe school. One of the people in the fight tried to hit my coach and my coach countered with a wrestling style throw. He then pinned that guy down using wrestling techniques. After that fight people were going around saying my coach knows karate.Seriously it was wrestling techniques!I mean karate doesn't even teach basic pinning of a person on the ground! My coach was angry because he was using wrestling.

Why do people you use throws or other grappling techniques you know karate?Karate hardly uses grappling techniques and throws!

Most people are untrained in the ways of wrestling, karate, or judo (which I could see wrestling being mistaken for), which to some degree includes me. Even though I took a few weeks of judo at the Y (hardly making me an expert), I probably could not tell the difference.

Karate, however, is based more on punches and kicks than it is on throws and holds, so I agree that you would have to be pretty clueless to confuse wrestling with karate.

But don't get angry, just pity the fools!
