True, being a world champion in the WWE doesn't mean anything anymore in WWE's current era. In the past, being a world champion used to denote a superstar or at least a wrestler that had the ability to entertain the crowd with his talking and wrestling ability. Nowadays, too many people have become world champions in WWE that lacked the ability to become household names like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, or The Rock, or even have well-rounded abilities in talking and wrestling like Kurt Angle. All that's required is to get over with just a single chant to win a world title while being nothing special in any other category or being skilled in the ring while being a completely bland talker and vice-versa. Too many mid-carders are world champions now.

I disagree. The popularity of the pseudo sport has nothing to do with if a wrestler is successful as a champion. Whether or not they're believable and over and booked strongly while they're at the top of the card is all that matters. Guys like Orton, Cena, Punk, and while it was short-lived, Daniel Bryan have brought some prestige and value to the title simply by how passionately and underhandedly they fight to get it, and then fight to keep it. Are we in 1970's NWA? No, but in this day and age, you can't book a title that way. Punk's reign was impressive enough. He even foregone injury to be on television to promote his reign.
Now that the titles are combined, you know for a fact whoever Vince decides to put it on is the irrefutable face of the company. If anything, the title means more today than it has in over a decade, especially now that there are so many young bucks in the picture looking to make a name for themselves. Right now we're going into a PPV where 15 men are vying for the title in separate Money in the Bank ladder matches. The title hasn't been this in demand in years. |

I can see your point on how it does not have that sense of worth that it used to have but I think it still means something. Unlike the IC title, US title, or Tag Team titles, the WWE World Heavyweight title still has meaning. I just think that there are less great superstars battling it out for the title and not the same creative ideas and storylines to make it as interesting.
