And yes it was stupid of him to even think that he can main event wrestlemania when he was not in the title picture

In CM Punk's mind, Main Eventing Wrestlemania was the only thing he had left to do. Basically Punk was on his way out of the business already, but wanted to be handed his shining moment at Wrestlemania. Sorry, sometimes that doesn't happen.

The Rock and Cena main evented WM28 with no title picture. The Undertaker and Michaels main evented WM 26 with no title picture.

Punk didn't feel he should main evented WM, he just didn't think it was fair the Rock would do it after a break of months and he didn't after working his butt off for years.

It wasn't so much about HIM, Main Eventing.. (although everyone worth their tights should assume they are worthy to main event at some point) it was about Brock, Dave, Rock et al who were there (or going to be there) for ONLY the road to Mania, who would be pushing everyone else down the Mania card (himself included)
