He just retired.

If you are trying to know HOW it ended, it was against Brock Lesnar in 2004 at Wrestlemania, when he won and then he got a Stone Cold Stonner from Stone Cold Steve Austin.

That was his last appereance on pro wrestling.

He was treated unfairly in the WWE and didn't think the WWE was about wrestling it was more about the storyline and the drama then the match it self.

He said if he could have one last match thoe it would be agains't Stone Cold.

Bill Goldberg decided he wanted to pursue other business opportunities rather than wrestle at 200+ Shows in 200+ Cities Year after Year for years to come. Bill Goldberg has done a number of Movies, a number of Television Shows. He has his own foundation and does a number of things for charity. Bill Goldberg just simply retired from Professional Wrestling in 2004 and hasn't wrestled a match for any Professional Wrestling Promotion since then. He is married and has children.

He's one of the relatively few guys that went out on their own terms. He made his millions, and simply left the business. He didn't have a career ending injury, he didn't end up addictetd to drugs or alcohol, he didn't burn any bridges,he just simply decided that he wanted to do other things, and he didn't need the money. Not too many wrestlers can claim that. I suspect that Goldberg saw pro-wrestling as job and not a lifestyle (which is actually a good thing form a personal well being standpoint), and wasn't hugely attached to it, so that made it easier for him to quit.

Basically Goldberg had about as clean a break from the business as you're ever going to see.
