Default Is CM Punk in the same league as Bob Backlund and Kurt Angle?

Skill-Wise,would you personally place CM Punk? in the same category as the likes of Curt Hennig,Frank/Karl Gotch and Lou Thesz?

BQ:Whai if Wrestlemania III ? had featured CM Punk? vs Ricky Steamboat instead of Randy Savage ??Would it have been better than the Dragon/Savage match or the Hogan/Giant match?

For an additional 2 points-http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...8042206AATKUBw

*Correction-Ricky Steamboat? (for Trademark purposes)

Wrestling ability alone? No CM Punk isn't one of those pure mat workers who goes from hold to hold, submission to submission without the need for striking. That isn't CM Punk, he throws kicks and back hand slaps. He's almost unique in style, few people do such a wide scope of styles so well. CM Punk should be considered one of the best workers in the ring but he's no in the same league as Angle for mat skills. However CM Punk strikes, flies, counters and can wrestle on the mat. I'd love to see Angle and Punk!

The past two years CM Punk has lifted the game of most people he's been in the ring with, he's faced a wide range of talents from Kane to Daniel Bryan and if John Cena was proven to be good in the ring when working with Punk. To prove John Cena haters wrong, to me lifts CM Punk into another level.

BQ: It has the potential to be the best match wrestling has ever seen, sadly we will never know.

CM Punk deserves to be in a league by himself. That league being an obnoxious,,irritating, whiny SOB. Sure he may have the 6th longest title reign in WWE history - - but that's because he is a mouthy crybaby. If I remember correctly he won about half his matches by cheating so this would NOT put him in the same category such as Lou Thesz.

BQ - As far as Punk being in the match with Steamboat and better than Savage = No way. Macho Man (was) one of the best wrestlers WWE ever had. And the Hogan/Andre match was one of the "best" matches in the history of WWE.

I don't think so. Bob Backlund was a High School Wrestler and a College Wrestler. Kurt Angle was a High School Wrestler and a College Wrestler. CM Punk was not an Amateur Wrestler at any level. curt Hennig, Karl Gotch and Lou Thesz all did Amateur Wrestling before Professional Wrestling. CM Punk did not.

CM Punk did not have The Athletic Background of Macho Man Randy Savage. Not only was Randy Savage a Wrestler, he was also a Professional Baseball Player.

No. Other than doing a lot of kicks, Punk isn't that great of a wrestler.

I'd have to say "no". With the exception of Henning (who was no slouch) you have listed some guys with very good legit shoot wresting skills (Thez, Gotch, Angle, Backlund). Punk does have some martial arts background, but not the legit grappling background those you named have.

BQ - The Hogan / Andre match was good mostly because of the hype around it. The match itself wasn't that great because Andre could hardly move and Hogan is pretty limited. So, Punk vs Steamboat would have been a far better match than that.

Punk definitely doesn't have the finnesse to his moves that guys like Perfect, the Gotch's or Backlund did, but he definitely has the work ethic and in-ring psychology in the sense that he knows how to tell a story and put on a main event match with what he's got.

BA: I think so, mostly because I think the Savage match, while good, is vastly overrated and kind of falls down the charts by comparison to wrestling matches held at 'mania since. It definitely wouldn't draw as much as Hogan/Giant, but neither did Savage/Steamboat, but it would've been a better in-ring match just as Savage/Steamboat was.
