Why didn't WWE just send Muhammad Hassan back to RAW if UPN had a problem with him?

I think the problem was moreso with his character as a whole rather than just on Smackdown. I think he was doing a storyline with terrorists during the London Bombings, which offended not just UPN but the entire general audience. But he was honestly a great heel; it's a shame the circumstances were like that.

Go back to the time when Sgt Slaughter "turned his back on America" and "sided with Iraq" during the Gulf War, AND fought America's superhero Hulk Hogan over the WWF Title. Slaughter was awesome in that role. Booed out of every building, hated by everybody (in the U.S.), got death threats and bomb threats (for buildings the WWF was planning to play). All that and he was an American and looked like one.

Muhammad Hassan (despite being an American born and raised in New York) looked like he came from the Middle East. His terrorist act coincided with the London Bombings perpetrated by Islamic terrorists, and played out during the U.S. War on Terrorism.

UPN pressured the WWE to remove him from Smackdown TV but that was the prevailing opinion of the fans in general. The "rasslin" character was in very poor taste considering the real-life sh*t that was going on at the time. No doubt the USA network didn't want him on RAW, either.

Muhammad Hassan wasn't a villain in an otherwise normal TV drama who gets caught or killed in a self-contained one-hour episode (or longer storyline arc). He was an "Islamic terrorist" employed by the WWE, allowed to tour with the company and spout his anti-America crap on TV to an audience that included children and families with relatives fighting Islamic terrorists for real.

This wasn't a case of the WWE being "controversial", it was a case of the WWE glorifying (by putting that character on TV) the terrorists the U.S. was at war with. I'm sure the USA network sent Vince a letter telling him not to put Muhammad Hassan on RAW.

The Character was performing terrorist like acts on television, WWE was certainly trying to build a story off that and off of what happen with 911 after things calmed down a bit, unfortunately real terrorist attacks happened in London, and that is what caused the controversial character to be pulled from television, WWE wasn't going to risk having him on any show!

It is really a shame though, Muhammad Hassan was pulled from TV and his pushed brought to a screeching halt because of poor writing, there is no doubt in my mind that Muhammad Hassan would of been heavily pushed, possibly even beating the Undertaker and going on to get a WWE Title shot and winning, if it wasn't for the terrorist attacks in London happening! It is just one of many examples where WWE let the performer take all the blame, when it was really WWE's fault for creating such a controversial character!
