If any promotion is near bankruptcy, it's Indy wrestling.

The WWE may be stretched thin financially but the company generates millions of dollars every month through merchandise, PPV, and house shows. If needed, the WWE can cut corners all over the place, trim down the roster, and stop putting so much money into movies that never do very well at the box office (or on DVD). The WWE is hurting a bit now but they're not close to bankruptcy (yet).

People want to work for the WWE because of the TV exposure which leads to opportunities in other genres of entertainment they wouldn't get otherwise. Movies, TV shows, radio shows, recording deals, book deals, etc. The indys can't and don't offer those kinds of opportunities.
