Tito was a sorely underrated wrestler who is seen as a solid mid-card talent during the Hulk Hogan-era. Tito had the look, the athleticism, the charisma and the ring smarts to have been a huge main eventer had he not been in the mid-to-late 80's WWE (he was like the Buddy Holly to Hogan's Elvis or the Beach Boys to Hogan's Beatles or REM to Hogan's U2). As it was, his resume in WWE is a solid one - 2 time Intercontinental champ (he wound up putting over an up-and-coming wrestler named Randall Mario Poffo giving him his first WWE title) and 2 time co-holder of the tag belts (with Ivan Putski and then Rick Martel). For a mid-carder, he was enormously popular with the fans (he had his own action figure and was a character on the Hulk Hogan saturday morning cartoon show). He had a great arsenal of scientific wrestling and could brawl with the best of them. And his flying forearm knocks the hell out of CM Punk's GTS (and I say this as a Punk fan). My favorite Tito matches are the ones with Greg Valentine, Macho Man, the Strike Force match against the Hart Foundation and a terrific impromptu lumberjack match against Rick Martel from Saturday Night's Main Event. I, however, never liked El Matador. He was given that gimmick for a serious World title run when Vince was considering expanding the WWE into the Hispanic market (it was all for naught - Vince instead decided to expand WWE's market in Canada and Bret Hart got Tito's push instead). Nevertheless, Tito, as El Matador, had one last great match on one of the first episodes of RAW against Ric Flair that is a must-see for every Tito fan.

A great wrestler who should be honored as one of the greats of his era.
