Default the "rules" of wrestling.....

remember when throwing someone over the top ropes was a disqualification?.....when using any foreign object was a ring the bell, stop the match......

heck, guys would wrestle for twenty minutes and then get dq'ed by a set of brass knuckles......just so the feud could continue......

so, have the "rules" of wrestling gone completely by the wayside?......has the entertainment aspect taken away from the overall picture that this was supposed to be a semi-sport?.....

giveth.....

The rules like the over the top rope rule was an exclusive NWA rule. And they made a pretty big deal in WCW when the finally decided to go away with the rule. One reason is because every other promotion was allowing their guys to be thrown over the top rope. It only hurt NWA/WCW to have that pussy rule in play.

As for everthing else, i think that it could be looked at in 2 ways. For one I liked the whole 'letting the wrestlers have some space' match. ECW it was nothing odd about it, you could see about 2 tables in the ring and a bat for a regular championship match. TNA allows their guys to have more liberty in a match and for the most part I don't really mind.

My problem is when the match is taken out of the ring for to long of a time. I'm not truly a fan of wrestlers going into the crowd because it takes away from the match as a whole. I wouldn't mind seeing the occasional foreign object used as long as it was inside of the ring or by ringside. But sometimes matches do get out of hand, which ulitmatly takes away from the match itself......

Wasn't there a rule about being outside of the ring for more than a 10 count? Failing that I recall a time limit on the matches.
I remember one match in paticular the Quebeccer (spelling probably wrong) brothers were defending their tag team gold against the Stieners. All hope seemed lost for the champs until Johny Polo (the Qubeccers' manager) rang the bell and the confusion let his team regroup and fight until the time was really up.

the ten count rule is still in effect, except on those occasions that the ref ignores it.....

yes, there used to always be a basic time limit.....you would have the TV title with a ten minute time limit or television time remaining......or, often the announcers would say "one fall or a twenty minute time limit".....

iron man matches are the only ones I can remember recently in the WWE that have carried time limits.....and I'm not sure that I ever remember time limit matches overall in the WWE.....

I can only think of 2 in WWE/F. I mentioned one earlier in this thread and the other was "93 King of the Ring in the 1st round Lex Luger vs. Tatanka.

No your all forgetting... KOTR matches used to be ten minute time limit... Except for the final match... Which had a half hour time limit i think it was...

Either way i prefer the match that goes into the crowd but does a good job of it...

Undertaker v HHH wouldnt have been the same match had they stayed in the ring for the entire match...

Yet three quarters of Hardcore matches that went outdoors looked massively forced...

I think with time wrestling has changed, some might say for the worse and some might say for the better, in the rules aspect i say for the better. The rules they had back then gave matches too many restrictions, but i'll say within the past ten years the rules have been cut down by more than half it was a few years back. Refs have suddenly become the weakest people on God's green Earth and the only way to end a match now through a DQ is by interference, weapon use, attacking the ref and low blows, plus count outs, but back then i'm sure they had a page full of unnecassary rules to end a match through DQ such as the throwing your opponent over the rope rope.

well, again on Raw we saw a different viewpoint about the rules......Kane was counted out (in a no DQ) when Tajiri slid back into the ring.....then later on, the count was stopped on both wrestlers when Benjamin slid back in at the eight count.....HHH stayed outside but did not get counted out.....

Okay, there is always a point of overkill. The matches that went over the barricade were good when they were in moderation. They got boring when matches called "Hardcore" were preformed every week.
