Default NWA:TNA Announce Team UK vs. Team Mexico X Cup

-- has announced the pairing for the April 7th TNA X Cup special, in which reigning defendants Mexico will face off against team United Kingdom.

-- Much like Team Mexico is Team AAA/CMLL, you could re-name Team UK as Team All-Star as all 4 competitors (but not the coach) are from the All-Star Wrestling promotion in the United Kingdom, owned and operated by Brian Dixon. People have questioned as to why this decision was made when the NWA have a faction in the United Kingdom, and All-Star Wrestling doesn’t have television, whereas the FWA are on the newly launched Wrestling Channel.

-- While I have no answers for question one, the two names a lot of people would’ve expected to see on any Team UK, Doug Williams and Jonny Storm were both reportedly contacted about flying over in timer for this week’s taping, and staying through for the second taping next Wednesday. This couldn’t work for either man, as they have bookings on FWA’s return 2004 shows this weekend, with a great show lined up for Saturday in Enfield especially – a day when Doug is working in Germany for the WXW promotion. Rumor has it that Robbie Brookside, another All Star regular, was also asked, but instead suggested Frankie Sloan.

-- Below is the (slightly inaccurate) press release:

TNA is proud to announce that negotiations have been finalized for the big April 7 Americas X Cup event as defending champions Team AAA of Mexico will take on Team United Kingdom (UK) in the one-night mega X spectacular.

Current Americas X Cup holders Team Mexico from AAA will consist of new Team Captain Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila, Abismo Negro and new team addition Heavy Metal. As always, Team Mexico will be represented by AAA promoter and owner Antonio Pena.

Team United Kingdom (UK) will consist of Head Coach David Taylor, along with Team Captain James Mason and members Robbie Dynamite, Frankie Sloan and “Xtreme” Dean Allmark.

Below you will find brief bios on all the members of Team UK. will have extensive photos and backgrounds of each team member up this weekend.

Head Coach David Taylor
A longtime wrestling superstar in England and the United States, David Taylor was formerly seen on United States television in WCW along with Steven Regal. In recent years, Taylor has focused his energies with several promotions in the United Kingdom, and will be coaching the young UK X Cup crew on April 7!

[Editors Note: If anybody can let me in on what UK promotions Dave has been working with recently, please do. I keep my eye on the UK scene avidly, but have no clue.]

James Mason
A nine-year veteran of the X style in his homeland of the United Kingdom as well as in Germany and Japan, Mason is more than capable of heading up Team UK against Team Mexico on April 7. Mason’s finishing move is the top rope super dropkick.

Robbie Dynamite
A young X-style phenom of the British Isles, Robbie Dynamite looked up to the legendary Dynamite Kid growing up as a kid and modeled his style after the former British Bulldog. He’s tough as nails and relies on pure aggression to overpower opponents.

Frankie Sloan
The veteran wrestler of the team, this twelve-year UK X veteran has also made a name for himself competing in India and Saudi Arabia. Sloan is also in high demand across the United Kingdom, as he is one of the more popular X stars currently competing in the country.

“Xtreme” Dean Allmark
Known as the innovator of Team UK, “Xtreme” Dean Allmark uses an aerial attack unlike no other in the United Kingdom. Similar in style to many of the TNA X division athletes, Allmark relies on high-risk offense. His finishing moves, a double-underhook Piledriver and a top rope Frog Splash, are a lethal combo to any opponent.
