The reason Vince bought them, is because they where already going out of business, and Vince simpley wanted the right to both companys. Hulk Hogan convinced Vince to buy WCW, after Eric Bishoff called Hulk and asked if he was intrested in purchasing the company from Ted Turner and Time Warner. ECW had also run its course and lost its network time. So, despite what Vince takes credit for, he never killed WCW and ECW, bad management (Vince Russo) killed WCW and ECW was killed by the changing of the times. They where dead before Vince bought them.

Then WWF would've gone out of business due to not having enough money and WCW would end up becoming the superior company, but if everything went like planned and WWF DID go out of business.. then it's not sure what would happen but then Puroresu would become much bigger in my opinion.

Both companies were having their share of financial problems, but while WCW had the Turner/Time Warner money, ECW was pretty much on their own. The last year of ECW didn't have a lot going for it, as Taz and the Dudleys had left for WWE, which certainly hurt them. I remember reading somewhere that Eric Bischoff had a group of investors lined up to buy WCW before Vince and company ended up with it. Basically, it would have likely that WCW would have survived a lot longer than ECW. Don't forget what eventually killed the original ECW was WWE programming moving from USA Network to the then-TNN (now Spike TV) back in 2001, thus taking ECW's TV time and effectively eliminating any potential revenue they would have had.

WCW was driving itself in the ground regardless so they would've just been brought out by someone else, WWF didn't kill WCW, WCW killed itself. WWF however, has a huge responsibility for the death of ECW, TNN replaced ECW on TNN (which was their highest rated show) with Monday Night Raw, leaving ECW with nowhere to go. I believe ECW would've tried to find another TV Deal but they just had so many financial wounds that they were going to go under regardless. WCW and ECW would be defunct regardless if Vince McMahon purchased them or not, maybe whoever would've brought ECW and WCW could've given them a nice TV Deal to be on, letting them survive. But if WCW and ECW would've never gone defunct and were around to this day, there wouldn't be an ROH, that's a fact, and WCW would be the number 3 company while ECW and WWE are going head to head (ECW was growing rapidly during its final years while WCW was going on a downward spiral). I think the wrestling industry would be much more compelling and entertaining since we would have 3 companies to watch instead of two which are pretty piss poor products at the moment.
