I agree, steroids played a big part in a mistake in his life, they should not forget of all the good he did, his dedication, he is still a legend in my eyes, he's in my top 10, he definitely deserves a pardon and a spot in the hall of fame, if WWE is so pissed about what he did, how much were they doing to keep steroids out of WWE back when it happened, it sucks that it ended the way it did. R.I.P benoit.

I guess that's fair to say. Guys like Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior are controversial because of their time in WWE. Chris Benoit for all intents and purposes was not only a great wrestler, but he was a great worker as well. He busted his ass to make sure that every match came off without a hitch. He never botched a move. He didn't care about winning titles and instead put over the younger guys like Randy Orton at Summerslam 2004 and made them bigger.

He wasn't really a character, he was just known as being a tough guy and an intense competitor. The Rabid Wolverine. Fans cheered out of genuine respect for him. During the match he went at his opponent with 100% and would either make them tap with the Crippler Crossface or he would lose in the end and make the opponent look like a better star than they were going in. After so many years he won the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 20 by making Triple H, one of the biggest stars and legends in WWE history, tap out. It's one of the most memorable and remarkable moments in Wrestlemania history.

Chris Benoit isn't controversial because of his time in WWE. He's controversial because of his acts outside of WWE which have put a permanent black cloud over all of his accomplishments in WWE. I still think Chris Benoit was one of the best wrestlers in WWE history.

But long story short, yes I agree that Chris Benoit is the most controversial WWE superstar of all time.

No, there was never any controversy during his actual WWE career.
