Attitude Era refers to the time in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), when they were going head to head directly with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in what became known as The Monday Night Wars. Vince McMahon (WWF Chairman) decided that in order to compete with WCW (who had previously beat them in the Nielsen Media ratings something like 84 weeks in a row), he would have to switch his normally family-friendly WWF product to a more edgy show, regularly featuring strong language, nudity, blood, hardcore matches and just more macho material in general. The Attitude Era is strongly believed to have started in 1997, the night Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Shawn Michaels to become WWF Champion for the first time. However, other reports say that it started at KOTR 1996, when Austin made his infamous 3:16 speech, after defeating Jake Roberts in the KOTR final.

The Attitude Era is generally believed to have ended in 2001, when WWF bought WCW and the latter went out of business. Many people call the confrontation at WrestleMania X-Seven between Steve Austin and The Rock the final match of that era.

By Federation Era, I assume you mean the time when Hulk Hogan was the face of WWF, in the 80's and early 90's. This time in WWF history is a lot what it is like in today's WWE era. John Cena is today's Hulk Hogan and the product back then is very similar to what it is like now. Hogan was the main man in the company and EVERYONE loved him. I suppose that is one difference between him and Cena. Hogan was rarely ever booed. Adults and kids alike both adored him. Hogan had the gimmick of being a real American hero, who was rarely booked to lose matches and was looked upon as a superhero, always there to get rid of the bad guys. Again, very similar to Cena.

New School Era. Yet again, I'm just assuming that you mean the current era in which we are currently living. The era where John Cena is the top guy in the business. WWE has watered down their product a lot since the end of the Attitude Era in 2001, following the deaths of superstars like Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Lance Cade, Andrew Test Martin and Umaga, which has brought them a lot of unwanted attention. They officially turned from TV-14 to TV-PG in June 2008, because they wanted to reach out more to the younger demographic. It has also attracted more sponsors that normally wouldn't have touched WWE. Overall, it's been a smart business move by Vince, but incredibly boring to watch at times and has a lot of haters and naysayers. The majority of fans above the age of 13 or 14 are pushing for the TV-14 rating to be reinstated, even going as far as posting online petitions and such.
