Default Who Has Made The Greatest Impact On Music?

I figured I'd ask this because it is interesting to know what a person's opinion is on the subject. For me, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Queen, and Chuck Berry all rate real high.

No-brainer... Elvis Presley. If it wasn't for him music would suck.

True, Elvis did have a big impact on music that it echos in everything today. Reason I didn't chose him was because I had picked one from each music generation.

I say the Beatles. Sure, Elvis started it off somewhat, but the Beatles took it to a whole different level. They started the British Invasion, which paved the way for The Who, The Rolling Stones, Monkies, Led Zeppelin, and lots of other bands from England. This started the whole breakthrough of rock and roll. The Beatles were a revolution in sound, style, and popularity. They are the founding fathers of rock and roll.

I was initially going to say Elvis, I really think he revolutionized the world of music... and brought it to people who never had any interest in it... the way women went crazy for him... you can say the same thing about The Beatles... they had some crazy fans...

As far as music goes... I would have to say Elvis takes the cake... not by much, but he does.

IMO.

Its not any specific band, but the British Invasion gave music a new look around the world. The bands coming from it like the Beatles, Tommy TW, and Zepplin modernized not just Rock, but the entire music world giving it a new style that can tell stories, and illustrate meaning. Also, this may seem a little random and not right, but Jimmy Buffett. He gave not just the laid back feel good beach music style, but all music a more ubeat feel and he still does today. He has teamed with Hawaiin Music stars, Country music stars, Rock stars, no rap stars, but you get my point. I believe ever since he has come into the music world he has given it such a boost of "lets go get drunk" without any insane drugs or shit, people of all ages around the world can party with Jimmy. Woooh.

I don't think we have the depth to understand what true differences in musical culture is.....

if you are going to ask such a broadbased question, you have to bring in all genres.....classical, country, bluegrass, rock, rap, hip hop......

Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart.....they contributed more to the overall history of music and changed the thinking about what music was and could be.....they have made a much larger impact on what today's music is than someone like Black Sabbath.....

When you talk about who has made the biggest impact in music, do not be fooled into believing that people that have changed nothing really made an impact.....only those who have created a different style, a different genre of music have truly made a huge impact.....all others are merely copycats to the original.....

That wasn't the breakthrough of rock 'n' roll... ELVIS WAS! That's why they call him the kiing of rock and roll. He began it, the Beatles took it and ran with it but the bigger influence is Elvis because if it wasn't for him, there wouldn't be any Beatles.

^^ not true. Sure, Elvis was popular in America, and as well in England, but the members of the Beatles were already playing in clubs when Elvis was out. I'm sure he posed some inspiration, but not enough for George Harrison to say, "I'm gonna play guitar just because Elvis does." He was playing guitar when Elvis first started to emerge.....so yeah

That doesn't matter... they may have been playing in clubs but nobody knew who the Beatles were... everyone knew Elvis and Elvis took rock 'n' roll music to a new height. At that height, the Beatles took it further.
