Default Greatest Rapper Alive First Round Match 4 - Ludacris vs Chuck D

Ludacris

Ludacris first revealed his personality to local media as the radio DJ Chris Lova Lova at Hot 97.5 (which later became Hot 107.9), an urban radio station in Atlanta, Georgia. His first shot at of exposure was when he penned lyrics for the "Swing My Way" (Remix) by KP and Envyi on EastWest Records America in 1998. He also had his opportunity to gain commercial exposure when hip hop producer/rapper Timbaland heard him on Atlanta radio. Timbaland contacted and made an offer for Ludacris to work with him at the radio station.[2] Timbaland then produced a beat for Ludacris in the radio station. The two worked together and made Ludacris' recorded debut on "Phat Rabbit", a track from Timbaland's 1998 album Tim's Bio: Life from da Bassment. He currently owns a house in Alexandria, Virginia (where his mother lives and he visits regularly), along with a house in Los Angeles and his permanent residence in Atlanta.

vs

Chuck D

Carlton Douglas Ridenhour (born August 1, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York), better known by his stage name, Chuck D, is an African-American rapper, author, and producer. Widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all-time, he helped create politically and socially conscious rap music in the late 1980s as the leader of the rap group, Public Enemy.

Upon hearing Ridenhour's demo track "Public Enemy Number One", fledgling producer/mogul Rick Rubin insisted on signing him to his Def Jam label.[1] However, Ridenhour viewed the music business as a step down from the design job he had at the time. Rubin would continue calling, however, to the point where Ridenhour would have his girlfriend answer the phone as not to have to deal with him. Eventually, Ridenhour relented, insisting to Rubin that he also sign his friend William "Flavor Flav" Drayton, explaining to Rubin, "I don't know what he does, but he adds something".

As principal songwriter and main vocalist of Public Enemy, Ridenhour was the focal point of the group.[citation needed] Chronologically, their major label albums were: Yo! Bum Rush the Show 1987, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back 1988, Fear of a Black Planet 1990, Apocalypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Black 1991, Greatest Misses 1992, and Muse Sick-N-Hour Mess Age 1994. They also released a full length album soundtrack for the film He Got Game in 1998. Ridenhour also contributed (as Chuck D) to several episodes of the PBS documentary series The Blues. He has appeared as a feature artist on many other songs and albums, having collaborated with artists such as Janet Jackson, Kool Moe Dee, The Dope Poet Society, Run-DMC, Ice Cube and many others. In 1990, he appeared in Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing". In 1993, he executively produced Got 'Em Running Scared, an album by Ichiban Records group "Chief Groovy Loo and the Chosen Tribe".

In 1996, Ridenhour released Autobiography Of Mistachuck on Mercury Records. In November 1998, he settled out of court with Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G" Wallace's estate over the latter's sampling of his voice in the song "Ten Crack Commandments". The specific sampling is Ridenhour counting off the numbers one to nine on the track "Shut Em Down".

In September 1999, he launched a multi-format "supersite" on the web site Rapstation.com. A home for the vast global hip hop community, the site boasts a TV and radio station with original programming, many of hip hop's most prominent DJs, celebrity interviews, free MP3 downloads (the first was contributed by multi-platinum rapper Coolio), downloadable ringtones by ToneThis, social commentary, current events, and regular features on turning rap careers into a viable living. Since 2000, he has been one of the most vocal supporters of Internet music file sharing in the music industry.

The last time I seen Chuck D, he was in the limo with Flav heading to the Roast of Flavor Flav on Comedy Central.

Yup and those Grammy's just prove it.

So, is Chuck better because he's a "real O.G"?

You don't know Jeezy, the Back Pack movement is back in style. If you sale records, have money, win grammys, and you don't have to crash your computer to find their music. Than you are automatically are not a good rapper these days, this movements come back in style every 2 years or so. Now if you don't sale records, bitch about the state of hip hop, and nobody knows you than you're some how a great rapper.

It's funny too me, that Chuck D will always be in Flavor Flav's shadow and Chuck was supposed to be the leader.

I'm pretty sure Alanis Morisette has some Grammys too. Don't bring up the Grammy argument because it means nothing. Basically what you just told me in your post is that if you're not in the mainstream, you suck. You're an idiot and it's obvious that your knowledge of rap music doesn't span past your radio.

Chuck D was in Flav's shadow??

Uhhh...you mean Chuck D whose lyrics had every white man and woman over the age of 25 sweating out the possibility of a militant black revolution in the 80s and 90s was in the shadows of a man whose entire career can be summed up in the following four words: Yeah Boyeeee; Reality Whore??

Maybe it's the different backgrounds we have, but Truthhh...I have to completely disagree with your assessment. From what it looks like, Flav is the guy who is lucky that Chuck thought so highly of him. Flav is the guy who would be a homeless deadbeat dad on crack without Chuck.

Chuck had to threaten to not sign the record deal without Flav originally as the label didn't want Flav fucking shit up...his words were "He adds something. I don't know exactly what it is, but he adds something."

I love Flav...but PE should've tossed him before they tossed Griff back in the day if you ask me. 911 Is A Joke is probably PE's worst song. And if you listen to Flav's "speech" at the end of He Got Game, it's absolutely embarassing. It's laughable. Here's a guy who can be outsmarted by a jelly donut, and he's trying to preach like he's got the same kind of knowledge that Chuck has...it's kinda a little sad, actually.

And I got love for Flav. I am not a detractor of his. I'm all about Flav Whorin it up with VH1. I'm all about him collecting his check while a bunch of racists stopped short of calling him a n***** at the Comedy Central Roast. I'm all about Flav getting all the money that the Hollywood and Music execs want to throw his way, for whatever reason. I'm all about Flav's hos shitting on the carpet.

But to say that Chuck could even see Flav's shadow, let alone rap in it...I dunno. I completely and totally disagree with that opinion.

Oh and BTW Chuck is the Greatest Rapper Ever, World Without End, Amen. Just my opinion, but there it is.

Late.
