Default Religion

Do you get offended when someone else displays their faith?

examples
-Wearing crosses, star of Davids, etc etc
-Praying in public
-Discussing Religion openly
-Telling you about their beliefs

Nope I sure don't. I wear a cross, though it used to be upside down. I read my bible in public on a nice day and i don't want to be in doors. I discuss issues when brought up. I'm not a big believe in prayer in schools, and all kids being forced to be subjected to it, but aside of that i have no problem with public displays of religion, what they wear or discuss.

No, I don't find it offensive at all. And quite frankly, I don't see why I should anyway. The way I look at it is, most people who do that are just trying to either show that their proud of their religion, or in the case of wearing a cross round their neck, wearing it as an reminder to them of what they believe in. As far as praying in public places goes, I think it's not a big deal unless someone's doing just to get attention by others. Also, I really don't have any real problem with people wanting to tell me about their religion as long as it doesn't come off as, I'm being pushed to accept their way of life.

I have absolutely no problem with it. If people have something they can believe in, that they have faith in, I think they should be able to express it however they feel. Just as long as they're noy forcing it down my throat, I'm cool with it.

what i wanna know, is what's your stance, Kurt?

As for myself, well.........i honestly have no problem with people involving themselves in organized religion.......if it makes them feel better about themselves, and gives them something to believe in, then hey, as long as their happy, who gives a rat's ass?

I don't think that whether someone worships an imaginary being in the sky, a multi-armed elephant or a sacred cow .... that it will form who that person is and my perception of them.

As for discussion about their religious beliefs openly in public? meh, why not, I'm always interested to learn about other people's faith, regardless of whether i believe them or not...... it allows me to form a more informed opinion when i speak about religion.

The only think that really burns my ass is people trying to force their beliefs and religion on you. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs without being strongarmed into believing otherwise....... also, I find youth groups (mainly in the Christian faith) to seem to prey on the children who cant think for themselves or are vulnerable to being swayed easily by authority figures ( I only say this, for I have seen it happen on several occasions)

on a completely unrelated sidenote, i would like to say that if you enjoyed this thread (whether it was participating in it or just reading it) check out more awesome threads like this in the Meeting Of The Minds Forum ........ contrary to popular belief, there is intelligent discussion in there that deals with stuff OTHER than American politics and foreign policy.....

what are you waiting for? go check it out!!!!!!

and as for my religion? I don't really have one (although I was baptised Anglican)......i used to be agnostic...... but if i had to choose a religion to belong to, it would more than likely be buddhism, as it's not really a religion, but more of a philosophy

It doesn't bother me. But what does bother me is if they try to convert you whenever they talk to you.

I could care less how and what people want to believe in so no, I donít have a problem with it. Iím not really a religious man myself but if you are then I think itís cool. I have just never been into it.

The only thing I donít like it when people constantly preach it publicly, Iím talking about heavy preaching in the sense that they are trying to force their beliefs on you. Something else that bothers me is people who are easily offended by comments about religion. Sometimes people say things that are taken then wrong way and some get easily offended by it and then bring it back to religion. I know religion is touchy subject to most but to some itís just too much.

Well...I'm about to tell you..

I personally could care less about other people's religions. I've actually studied a few other religions than my own (Roman-Catholic). I enjoy learning about them and why people believe the way they do. However its when people become too pushy...or try to get me to convert that I begin to get irritated.
